I don't think it does mean "**** all". We know Gerrard is a class act who is totally out of form. It is extremely likely that at some point in the near future he will return to form - making the "cliche" valid IMO.Originally posted by carheexyou're right, it is over used and therefore very boring. and it really does mean **** all. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

That's the way it should be though. There should be competition for places and the guy who has a starting place should be working his arse off to keep it whilst the guy who wants his place should be chomping at the bit to get it.Originally posted by ningnangnong
Completely agree, but that'll never happen.
We don't have that at the club at the moment and players know that they'll be chopped and changed regardless of whether they're playing well or if the playing ****e.
I think for the time being we have to adopt the approach of having a settled 11 where ever possible. If we do that then I'm certain that results will improve.Babel fanclub member # 4!!!

Conclusion: Cliches are not necessarily always true, but make for nice little sound-bites for the less eloquent.Like blood on iron

Which is why I said "most" rather than "all".Originally posted by Red_Polo"Where there is smoke there is fire."

I think there is a halo effect with Carragher here and as a result people are being harsh on Hyypia, sure carra is a the better and younger player but he has been involved with as many mistakes if not more than Sami.Missing headers, poor clearances,. not following men, not playing to the whistle. He is going through a very poor run of form.
Garcia still has too many flicks in him, if he actually tries to play decent balls I think that he can make that spot his for sure. Pennant has not delivered since coming.
I also think based on performances so far Kuyt is a little overrated, although it is early days. I believe against teams that arent challenging at the top he will be a menace and will score but in the games against Chelsea and Manchester United his movement was easily coped with, admittedly he was on his own but Crouch plays this role much better and I think he should be given the nod first with Bellamy.
Gonzalez has done OK so far, but I havent been impressed by his pace, he crosses in a hell of a ball though. It would be good when Kewell returns as I think he provides different skills on the left involving cutting in more
If I am being honest I think we miss the influence of Hamann in the big games, someone who will break up play and pass a very simple ball to a player nearby and so keep possession. Both Xabi and Momo have a tendency to go for a longer (mostly inaccurate) pass.Quit your jibber jabber!!!

You think Kuyt should be 3rd choice?Originally posted by saveferrisI believe against teams that arent challenging at the top he will be a menace and will score but in the games against Chelsea and Manchester United his movement was easily coped with, admittedly he was on his own but Crouch plays this role much better and I think he should be given the nod first with Bellamy.Thomas Hicks Senior

At the moment yep, the fans expect a lot from him and he had a great start when he came on as sub and has scored a couple of times, but I think that Crouch and Bellamy are a better combo. Kuyt seems to want to turn his man. While Crouch lays it back to the midfield which then has a better chance of using Bellamy's strengths of his pace using a through ball.
I think some more time to acclimitise along with some CL/CC starts and Kuyt will build up. Yesterday I was desperate for Crouch to get on the field, i didnt think Kuyt did much except for his header in the first half, he was largely anonymous in the second.Quit your jibber jabber!!!
