7% Two c*nts tax on season tickets

    words fail me

    ...

After their worst League finish for eleven years and failure to qualify for the Champions League, you could forgive Liverpool for cutting their title-hungry fans some slack. Yet with debts circling the £351million mark, the managerless club - whose fans burnt American flags outside Anfield last week in protest of owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks - have hit Kopites with a 7 per cent increase in season ticket prices.

With the future of influential duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres up in the air and the warring owners refusing to contemplate offers for the financially crippled club, the announcement will come as a bitter blow to the Anfield faithful.

The prices - announced later than last year - sees Kop seats at £680 online (£732 at window), with the Main Stand, Paddock and Centenary Stands £732 online (£785 at window) and the Anfield Road end, £722 (£774 at window), according to the club's official website.
According to the Liverpool Echo, The news came after a new report showed Liverpool are the third highest paying club for player wages in the Premier League, up 18 per cent in 2008/9.

The season ticket prices are understood to be based on purchases being made prior to June 25 with the rises not as severe as many had feared following the delay making the prices public

To be honest, they were always going to increase in price.

I'd heard rumours of a 20%-25% increase, so 7% doesnt look so bad in comparison.

Were people expecting them to decrease in price?

Thats what i was thinking. Surely we cant have the third highest wage bill.

I reckon manU, chelsea, man city & spurs all have higher wage bills than us.

I am praying that new owners are waiting in the wings and the Americans are being told to deliver all the bad news before the big Sheik up.

Undoubtably true with Man U, Chelsea and City and I would have thought Spurs aswell.
When you consider Rafa said Portsmouth offered Crouch 15k a week more than we did and then Spurs bought him so he'd have had another increase that 1 example alone suggests they'll have a higher wage bill than us.

To be fair in one sense they said the increase was down to the VAT increase and inflation

They did decrease prices IIRC when vat went down so 2.5% Vat + 4.5% Inflation (extra profit).

We increased our wage bill from 90 to 107 million this season.

Only Chelsea 162m and ManU 123m pay more than us.

Arsenal pay 104m. City pay 83m and Villa pay 72m. Tottenham too are thereabouts but not greater than 80-85m.

Edit: Turns out, Tottenham's wage bill is only 60m?

You can have a look here, though there are some changes in the figures I quoted, I was almost correct. I remember reading my figures on Deloitte or somewhere else.

Wow that has shocked me that City are so low, you'd have thought signing Santa-Cruiz, Adebayor, Toure, Barry, Bridge, Robiniho, Ballamy, Given plus others would have them higher.

I guess it's difficult to gague as they haven't disclosed size of squads etc... i.e. have they taken the 24 players with the highest wages from each club.

Liverpool's seven per cent increase in season ticket prices means only Arsenal more expensive in Premier League

New survey shows Blackburn Rovers have the cheapest Premier League season tickets...

                            By Andrew Headspeath
                            9 Jun 2010 14:57:00

Liverpool have hiked prices of season tickets by seven per cent, meaning the lowest cost of a standard adult season ticket at Anfield for the 2010-11 season is now £680, and it is only that low if booked via the internet.

An adult ticket in the main stand is £732 and the priciest ticket costs £785.

The club's fans, already unhappy with the unfullfilled promises, levels of debt and unreasonable asking price for the for-sale club from the unpopular American owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, are sure to have their unrest fuelled at the new developments.

A new survey also done by SportingIntelligence now puts Liverpool second, behind only Arsenal (where the cheapest season ticket is £893), in the table for most expensive Premier League season tickets.

The Gunners' standard season ticket does cover 26 games, however, as opposed to most clubs providing just the 19 home league games.
A club spokesperson for Liverpool told SportingIntelligence: “Prices remain extraordinarily competitive, particularly compared with other clubs in the top half of the table.”

After Arsenal and Liverpool, Tottenham and West Ham United have the next most expensive 'entry level' prices, followed by Chelsea, and then, somewhat surprisingly, Wolverhampton Wanderers, ahead of Manchester United.

At the other end, the best value standard adult season ticket in the Premier League next season can be held at Blackburn Rovers, for a surprisingly reasonable £224, followed by Wigan Athletic (£250).

Those are for the year up to the middle of 2009, alot of those players joined after that (Barry, Adebayor, Santa Cruz, Toure, Lescott etc)
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
