Former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has made a £96,000 donation to the Hillsborough Family Support Group.

The group was founded by families who lost loved ones in the Hillsborough Disaster in April 1989 which resulted in the deaths of 96 Liverpool fans.

Benitez, whose Anfield reign ended last week, supported the organisation during his six years in charge of the Reds.

The 50-year-old Spaniard was confirmed on Thursday as the new coach of European champions Inter Milan.

"When he handed the cheque over to me he was very emotional, as I was and the committee was, especially when we saw the amount," said Margaret Aspinall, chairman of the Hillsborough Family Support Group.

"He just said that he wanted to help with the cause and hoped we get what we rightly deserve.

"We have lots of things that we spend money on; a memorial every year, upkeep of the office and expenses but Rafa just said as long as it helps the group then that's all that matters."

What a class act of a man. I'll really miss him.

Surely if you send it to Inter's HQ with his name on it, it'll reach him.

Feel safer sending it to his house over here, he obviously won't have got anywhere near selling it and he'd get loads of mail to that 'address'. Also it'd have more chance of finding its way into his hands via his home address than via Inter IMO.

But do you actually have his home address?

I have to say the idea of writing him a letter has crossed my mind a few times, although the question remains - where the **** would you send it?

Surely the address Shaggy suggested isn't enough!??

Hardly a drop in the ocean from the £6m compensation package, but still a fantastic gesture that re affirms him as a legend in my book. I can think of few people who would possible have done the same.

He has left the club, has no reason to ever come back and no reason to keep the people back on merseyside sweet. He has done this totally out of his own generosity and good natured spirit. Shows how much he tthinks of the club.

I agreed with him leaving, but I am genuinely gutted he never got a fair crack at last season with some decent transfer funds to have a real go at the title.
                        Forwards.......

I will refrain from saying what I would like to say. I just typed a lot of expletives, but deleted them.

96,000 is the perfect touch. It's not about the money, he wants the families to know he's thinking of them and they will remain in his mind.

                            Absolute class.
