I think my inclination currently is still to maintain our policy about preventing the spread of "unsubstantiated personal rumours" - if it doesn't turn out to be true that will obviously have been best, and if it unfortunately is accurate then I don't really think there'll be a great deal of constructive debate to be had about it until or unless it is published by the media.

So please, can people bear this in mind.

I'm going to unsticky this later as it doesn't seem needed any more; the fortnight of doom passed and.... nothing in the papers.

There's definitely a lesson in this about not believing everything we hear; thanks to the people who pm'd me rather than posting things that would now appear to be complete nonsense.
