Agree. He needs to push on and hopefully with a good injury free pre season under his belt he will do that.

For me it's never been about Hodgson but more about what his appointment says about the state of the club and the scope of our ambitions.

If he can persuade Torres and Gerrard to stay then I'll be more optimistic.

Luckily I cant seem to get out of escape relegation and its a good season mode so surely this season can only exceed my expectations.

In all seriousness though with these cunts still in charge it wouldnt surprise me if we have a great start to the season then have to go into administration. I just cant be positive whilst they still run the club.

Off the top of my head:

- So far we've not weakened our squad through sales and seemingly added a quality player in Jovanovic....that's one reason to be optimistic.

- Hopefully a takeover is going to happen or be in the process of happening by the start of the season (please let Broughton have been telling the truth). Hicks, Gillette and Purslow will be the past.

- We were hamstrung by injuries last year which exposed our squad depth but hopefully this year our first team will stay relatively fit and on form. The squad as it stands is easily good enough to get into the top four....who knows with a couple of quality additions we could even even win the league

- Rodolpho Borrell is staying and our academy and reserves already number a fair few promising players.

And we've added one of the most sought after medical experts, who just so happens to be an Aussie so hopefully we may have a few less injuries.

Agree with above. We have a good first 11, capable of getting top 4, infact even winning the league. But is our squad? No. We still need a couple of quality additions because we all know you need a strong squad and we can't compete with the Top 3 and Citeh in those terms imo yet. Jovanovic will be good, and hopefully Roy can get a couple more in likes of Cole/Turan.

I don't know, but I have a very small part of me that won't care if we fail this season, just to show the haters Rafa wasn't a bad manager at all . Lol anyways hopefully Roy can suprise us, if not Rafa will back in the future when we have new owners and win us our 19th .

It would be very disrespectful to roy if anyone was to sing that at any time during the season. Let's support him and move on from what has happened with rafa

Got to be the least optimistic I have ever been before a start of a season, just not looking forward to the first match.

It's difficult to be optimistic when were linked with the following players:

Maynor Figueroa
Steven Taylor
Damien Duff
Paul Scharner

I know there only rumors, but Roy will end up building a bottom four team, not a top four.
