Go and look up some Lucas videos on YouTube (pre-Liverpool) and see how what kind of player he could be.

I'm convinced that Rafa stifled his game. I think it was to strengthen certain aspects of his game but he never let him show what he is good at.
    Was muß, das muß.

      Football posts!

El Zhar can do one, we'll make a profit there.

As for Lucas, that article sounds a bit speculative, and comes complete with the now-the-norm Purslow dig.

Most can look good on YouTube BUT I do agree with you here with Lucas, we changed him into a defensive holding type of MF - he is clearly a box to box midfielder who loves to get in and around the oppostions penalty area

Shame he didn't get to show that under Rafa but new manager new opportunity to show what he could do for us.

Lucas is only 23 - not as bad a player as most think.

I can see this point, and the same for Insua. They are young and could both improve either with experience or under new management/coaching

However, one of the reasons why I think we should get rid is because we don't have the luxury at the moment of waiting for this to happen.

We have a small squad and not much money. Lucas is not good enough to be first choice in our team IMO and although it might be a good idea to keep him and bring him through as part of the squad while he develops, the fact is that we need players to perform now, and if we can raise a decent amount from selling him then we can spend it on a replacement.

That may seem rather shortsighted, granted. And yes it would be annoying if he went somewhere else and then developed into a quality player, but sadly that is the position we are in, and struggling through in the squad we have now won't make him a better player and won't make us a better team.

That's OK. After all, you are a Tory.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

hmmmm i am worried as well - it seems that Roy would like to take a closer look at Lucas and Insua but he is not been given the opportunity..... if that was Jose Mourinho, Fergie or Wenger, then they'd walk straight out the door and sue the club for breach of contract..... this would possibly imply the following:

                  1. Roy has it in his contract that he does NOT have the final say on transfers in and out of the club - therefore the likes of Purslow can go over Hodgsons head and sell who he likes.
                  2. There is going to be a firesale of the club. Basically, all the players will be sold to get down the debt and make the club easier to sell. This would also tie in with the fact that LFC were prepared to give Rafa £6m to feck off. Had they sold Insua or Lucas - or any other player for that matter - over Rafa's head, contractually he was entitled to his wages for the remainder of his contract - £16m at the start of this summer - and this was to be transfered to Rafa within 24 hours or more penalties would kick in......

We could be seriously fcuked next season...........

Exactly, he wasn't voted Brazilian player of the year based on his defensive abilities.

Or c: We allowed the players to talk to the clubs before Roy was appointed, and we can not now block them from doing so...the crunch comes if a bid is made...will Roy be allowed to then refuse it, will the players kick up a fuss if he does, or will Purslow sign and seal it without consulting Roy first?

The problem with this is that if the owners sold all of the players (I almost typed 'best players' then - but then I remembered we were talking about Lucas and Insua) then it wouldn't make the club easier to sell at all, as buyers would be looking at taking over a club with a squad full of **** players with no chance of winning anything!

this didn't seem to stop Man City being taken over......

Let's just say that Dumb and Dumber want 400m for the club...... well if they sell Torres, Gerrard, Mascherano, lucas, Kuyt and Insua..... all for 150m and then dropped the price of LFC to 250m, then it might make the club more attractive for a billionaire to take it over, he then gets to pump in 150, 200m of his own money for players and be seen as the messiah......

this could be a load of bollix (i have been drinking!!!) but it could also possibly tie-in with Purslows comments that he expects the club to be sold by the end of the transfer window..... maybe the deal is already done and the new owner has said that he wants LFC to sell a list of certain players.....
