    Swiss training camp

Roy Hodgson will work with a youthful squad during Liverpool's pre-season training camp in Switzerland.

The Reds departed for their base near the Alps from John Lennon airport today as they crank up preparations for 2010-11.

Many of Liverpool's World Cup stars were not included in the 20-man travelling party as they were given extra time to recuperate following their South Africa exertions.

However, Sotirios Kyrgiakos will join up with the 20 on Thursday, while new signing Milan Jovanovic is also due to be involved and will travel direct to the training camp from Serbia.

Meanwhile, Dani Pacheco is not included as he is currently on international duty with Spain.

Diego Cavalieri, Alberto Aquilani, Albert Riera, Lucas Leiva, Emiliano Insua, David Ngog, Jay Spearing, Philipp Degen, Stephen Darby, Martin Kelly, Peter Gulacsi, Steven Irwin, Nathan Eccleston, Daniel Ayala, Martin Hansen, David Amoo, Lauri Dalla Valle, Thomas Ince, Jonjo Shelvey, Victor Palsson, Sotirios Kyrgiakos (not arriving until July 15), Milan Jovanovic (travelling direct from Serbia).

    I see.........

*Dani Pacecho with Spain again, no wonder they are so good, think they must keep there Youth more than any other team!

*also no nemeth maybe he is off.

*Ayala is in though....maybe he is staying?

Agree RE Pacheco, he seems to be with Spain more than us

And I read something in the last couple of days about Nemeth staying behind with his agent or something.

It will be interesting to see what Hodgson does with Dalla Valle, as didn't Fulham want to sign him last year?

Thats probably why Spain are so good - they all play together ALOT from young.

Yes didnt Malcolm elias go to fulham? and they wanted to pay about 3.5million for him. Hodgson obviously has decent scandinivian links so maybe a breakthrough season for him?

Fulham in talks to sign Dalla Valle
by Dan on August 31, 2009

Reports from Finland suggest that Fulham are in talks with Liverpool over the proposed transfer of their promising Finnish forward Lauri Dalla Valle.

Dalla Valle has apparently grown unhappy at not being able to break into the Liverpool first-team squad, or even hold down a regular place in the reserve side, despite having been promised a run in the reserve team earlier this summer. Hodgson watched Dalla Valle score twice as Liverpool’s Under 18 side beat their Fulham counterparts 3-1 at Motspur Park at the weekend.
There are unconfirmed reports that Dalla Valle has handed in a transfer request, while this story suggests that Liverpool have already turned down a loan offer from Fulham. The speculation on Merseyside is that Liverpool would settle for a fee of around £5m

This crossed my mind a while ago. Roy must have have a good knowledge of LDV and I wonder if that will give a bit of a boost in terms of his first team chances. Being a bit of a Suomiphile, I'd be chugged to see him given a chance.

Obviously there are alot of players missing from the squad because of the World Cup and theat's why there are alot of kids there, but lets hope some of these kids can put in some good performances and put themselves in contention.

Players like Spearing and Darby after good loan spells last year are close to a make or break point in terms of their Liverpool careers, while many of the others have opportunities to make a name for themselves, with nothing to lose.

Btw no El Zhar what's the story with him is he on his way?

I would guess that there are staggered returns for the WC players to everyone has more or less the same amount of time off, Jovanovic and Kyriakos were out in the group stages weren't they? I'd imagine in a week or so the guys who went out in the last 16 will be back and perhaps a couple more weeks before Reina, Torres, Kuyt and Babel are back.

read this the other day.....didnt think it was worthy a thread, but as you mentiond it.......

Player profile: A second year Academy scholar, Tom will enter into his final season in Kirkby hoping to impress and become a permanent fixture at Melwood.

The son of former Reds captain, Paul, he is regarded as a very exciting prospect and was a key player in the Youth Cup team that reached the final in 2009.

Ince can play as a left winger but he also excelled playing just off the striker in the Steven Gerrard role.

He has a sweet left foot and will look to make more progress this season.

Steve Hunter says: Tom is a player that excites you when he is on the ball and is a real talent.

He is a totally different player to his dad as Tom can beat players for fun and score goals. He also has great vision and a sweet left foot.

He has been well coached at the Academy and has a great attitude. Next season will be the one where he looks to break into John McMahon's reserve team and make more progress.

Ince was in dazzling form during 2008-09 when he played as a second striker during the run to the FA Youth Cup final. He scored some great goals including a fabulous free-kick at Elland Road.

I was also impressed with the way he conducted himself admirably when quizzed by the TV cameras after the FA Youth Cup final defeat to Arsenal and was very gracious in defeat.

This campaign Rodolfo Borrell has used him as a left winger and he has played a key role in the U18s unbeaten end to the season which has seen them go nine games undefeated.

I'm not sure if he'll make it or not but it looks like he'll be given the opportunity to show what he can do. I think him being a homegrown player and us not having too many of those at present, is currently in his favour.

Plessis was the other one alongside El Zhar I was wondering what happened to.
