Does it really give confidence though, whacking a gang of kids, does that not just give a false impression of what is required of the team. If thump them and then get ****ed at the weekend it's going to have the opposite effect.

Bench can be any of the other out of form jokers.

Get the ***** some confidence. Smack Readings youth team for 6. If they play **** then they need to have a proper ****ing look at themselves.

*Not really out of form but need to help the other beasts get their act into gear.

Right now mate, we need a victory. Nothing helps like a good beating of someone. If that team doesnt get some confidence from somewhere before Saturday then Villa will **** us over. Make no mistake about that, Villa will do us unless form is regained/attitudes changed. Tomorrow we have the chance for an easy fixture, which after the run of games we have had, is what we need. Get the strikers scoring, iron out the ****ty mistakes we have been making. This is a chance to do that because if we make mistakes on saturday, Villa will punish us a lot more than Readings Youth/reserve team. (And it will be as Steve Coppell has said as much)

I agree that it will have a good effect on the side in terms of confidence, I just don't want it to be deluded. There's also the reverse tho, if we put out a strong team, and get battered by kids, then we're going to have some mammoth confidence problems.

I think a mix of 1st team and kids will do nicely.

nah bollox to that i would play the new boys e.g pauletta, pennant, gonzalez, aurelio and kuyt to get them more used to being in the team.

I would give dudek a game and rest finnan.

Get the rest of the guys properly prepared for saturday.

For sure ? ****, the Carling Cup was basically his only chance of playing this season.

It's a back problem, it's a long-standing injury. I fear for tonight, I really do, we'll put out the stiffs with a handful of bench warmers like zenden. Gulp. Reading are a tough outfit, they won't play the reserves.

I agree. Who said they were going to play their kids? I reckon Reading will view the league cup as a target, and to be honest you wouldnt fancy our first team against them never mind the reserves!

                                Benitez turns to Fowler

                                Oct 24 2006

                                By Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo

ROBBIE FOWLER will make his Liverpool return against Reading, manager Rafa Benitez confirmed today.

The Anfield legend hasn't featured for the senior side since starting the Merseyside derby.

In fact, Fowler hasn't even made the bench since, but he'll be given an opportunity to revive his and the club's fortunes in the Carling Cup tie.

The striker sat out recent fixtures with a back problem, but he's recovered to take his place against Steve Coppell's side, as Benitez rings the changes after Sunday's 2-0 defeat.

"Robbie will play," said Benitez. "We will be using our whole squad.
