Rafa was also after David Villa when was at Malaga (?) and no-one had ever heard of him. He allegedly turned us down cos he didn't wanna leave Spain and 'doesn't like The Beatles'
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Except Essien is obviously not crap.
Wasn't Essien the answer to all the riddles in the epic 'moment of clarity' thread on Koptalk?

Real Zaragoza, but yes, you are right.

Are other target that summer was Samuel Eto'o. Michael Owen was to pay for his Real Madrid owned half, whilst we were to stump up the cash to pay for teh Real Mallorca half.

But Sammy had a change of heart when Barca came a calling.
            Forwards.......

Daniel Alves. 'Of the nest' didn't make it happen.

Essien had been identified as the replacement for Gerrard if he left for Chelsea, that's in quite a few autobiographies.
The rest of this thread is just usual hearsay bollocks as no-one actually knows what went on in a lot of cases then chinese whispers turns it into the greatest world XI that we almost managed to sign.

Notice that 99% of the players mentioned on here are great players for the club they ended up with, surely someone can pretend we almost signed someone who turned out to be ****e like Ralfe Milne for example!
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Okay, we were close to signing David Cortes, a full-back who as far as I know ended up doing **** all in Spain.

Similarly Ibanez, although that was mainly paper talk and I don't know if it was for real, but we were linked continually and I don't think he ever left his club until recently when he signed for.............West Brom!

I guess those aren't classed as newsworthy or discussed.

It's always good to pretend to be in the know though, and some have been backed up in book's - didn't McAllister try and get hold of Robbie Fowler, but got Robbie Keane ... or something like that?

I think unfortunately, all the naff players we were linked with, *did* end up at Anfield, from Jimmy Carter to Sean Dundee.
