Arsenal first game of the season.

So, with the side we currently have what team would you pick for the Arsenal game, ive been thinking about it and I came up with

    GK Pepe

RB Johno CB Carra CB Agger LB Fabio

    DM Macher

    RM Dirk LM Jovan/Babel

    AM Gerrard AM Cole

    CF Torres.

Bench - Cavalieri, Aquilani, The Greek, Skrtel, Lucas, Jovan/Babel, N'gog

This is presuming nothing else changes before the end of the season, which i doubt but for now im guessing this would be it, if the Macherano transfer goes through i'd swap Macherano for Gerrard and play Aquilani more forward.

No worries, my mate was educating me on Eden Hazard today, looks a class act.

          12 men? No Maxi?

          -------------------Reina-------------------

          Johnson----Carragher---Agger--------Aurelio

          ------------------Lucas-------------------

          ------------------Gerrard--------------------

          Kuyt--------------Cole-----------------Jovanovic

          ------------------Torres----------------------

Subs: Cavalieri, Insua, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Aquilani, Maxi, Ngog

Sort of a 4-2-3-1 (or 4-1-4-1) but with Gerrard playing more of a genuine CM role as opposed to holding. I really want to see Joe Cole in that free role behind Nando.

I'd go with shaggy's team but i want to see if Babel can turn into a player for us.

I agree this is the only team he can put out in my opinion, would like to see Aquiliani in and gerrard dropping back for the lesser teams.

And poor old Babel, he tweets and tweets and you say you love him now......and when it comes to the crunch he doesnt even make your subs bench.

I thought Babel was probably better than Maxi in the end, i'd maybe replace him on the bench for the Greek. was a hard one that.

Aye i like the look of that.

Possibly Maxi instead of Jovanovic but then again Jovanovic is left footed hence we'd have good width on both sides of the pitch.

Aslong as neither Insua or Aquilani start, i'll be happy enough.

Is Torres likely to be fit for the game?

Touch and go but i've a feeling he'll start.

"He's only been back a few days and needs to do a lot of work to make sure he recovers from his holiday and the injury he picked up at the World Cup," Hodgson told reporters at Melwood.

"We won't risk him (against Rabotnicki) but we are still hopeful that, come the Arsenal game, it won't be out of the question to use him then - though I do realise the sports science people may tell me it's still too early."

He added: "We believe he wasn't fully fit going into the World Cup and that may have affected his performance and been the cause of the injury he picked up at the end, so we want to be careful this year to make certain that we prepare him - not just for August 15 but for the whole season."
