I think most managers in the world would pick Kuyt in their side and he is exactly the sort of player Roy will really fancy, I reckon. I reckon Dirk will be a nailed on regular, which I don't necessarily agree with as I like Maxi as well.

Yes mate i agree but alls i'm saying is under Rafa he was guaranteed a game -basically every second of every game.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI think most managers in the world would pick Kuyt in their side and he is exactly the sort of player Roy will really fancy, I reckon. Under Roy i just think there might be times when he's taken off in games/put on the bench.
No player is guaranteed a place in the team though

I think Kuyt will do better now we have more players who do stuff in the final third, movement off the ball and relatively quick passing, last season this was missing and Kuyt didn't have the best of times. While he's not the instigator of such things he seems more effective when they occur. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Kuyt will play every game he can and anyone who thinks he struggle to get a game is mad. He's a managers dream, fantastic workrate, never gives up and has a handy knack of getting crucial goals. Not technically as good as maxi but for me his attributes give better all round balance then Maxi's.IMO he should start with Jovanovic on the other side but Maxi should get plenty of games too

Sadly,I agree. I'm torn as to which I prefer. I really think Maxi has a massive season in him, but it's very hard to drop Dirk.Originally posted by Shaggy View PostI think most managers in the world would pick Kuyt in their side and he is exactly the sort of player Roy will really fancy, I reckon. I like our options as attacking midfielders but I agree with those who say a genuine winger (at least as an alternative) would be nice in the squad.
I think fredo makes a good point about the importance of flexibility/adaptability in the modern game and the scarcity of wingers. However I think that the option as embodied by Riera the season before last can really help balance a team and get the best out of other players."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

not really, most of them would be converted central players asked to play in a less favoured position. i think this area is still a massive weakness for us.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostGerrard

I think we're well stocked in this area.

Kuyt and Jovanovic might just run most sides to death, our workrate from those wide areas could really be phenomenal. With Cole providing more craft I think it could be a winner, Jovanovic looks like he'll possibly be worth about the same goal return as Kuyt, both are strikers-cum-wingers and really could work in a 4-2-3-1; with Gerrard behind, Cole in the middle and Torres up top we should have enough flair, imagination and creativity to really utilise some tireless work ethic. So if we can keep everyone fit I'm not so worried about a lack of traditional width, though having it as an option would also be nice.Originally posted by PoolG View PostKuyt will play every game he can and anyone who thinks he struggle to get a game is mad. He's a managers dream, fantastic workrate, never gives up and has a handy knack of getting crucial goals. Not technically as good as maxi but for me his attributes give better all round balance then Maxi's.IMO he should start with Jovanovic on the other side but Maxi should get plenty of games tooI could not dig, I dared not rob:

With our current set of players it certainly would seem to be the logical set-up anyway.I could not dig, I dared not rob:
