    First XI / Second XI

Roy said the after the Rabotnicki match that with all the games involved in the Europa League, Premiership and domestic cups we'll almost need to be able to field two XI's. Presuming Mascherano is off i reckon that leaves us with something like this:

    First XI:

    Reina

    Johnson
    Carra
    Agger
    Aurelio

    Lucas
    Gerrard

    Kuyt
    Cole
    Jovanovic

    Torres

Subs: Cav/Gulacsi, Kelly, Skrtel, Aquilani, Maxi, Pacheco, Ngog

    Second XI:

    Cavalieri/Gulacsi

    Kelly
    Skrtel
    Kyrgiakos
    Insua

    Spearing/Poulsen?
    Aquilani

    Maxi
    Pacheco
    Babel

    Ngog

Reserves/U21s: Wilson, Shelvey, Ayala, Irwin, Ecclestone, Darby, Mavinga, Amoo, Ince, Dalla Valle, Suso, Robinson, Coady, Wisdom etc etc

That's a strong second side we have there. We clearly do have a strong squad, with good young players coming through. Last season, it was in terms of creativity and firepower up front which made us look like we had an awful squad.

We still need a backup striker. Come on Roy don't repeat the clubs mistake 3 years in a row

I like the fact that the second team still has a few reserves who can come in and do a good job, i.e shelvey and Wilson as well as some of the boys from the reserves i.e Ayala and Amoo

we have no idea whether amoo or wilson or shelvey can do a job against a premier league team. it seems like they should be able to, but we don't know.

as for ayala...well he's been hit and miss. that game against chelsea :shudders:

I think Wilson will be good enough. Surely some teams in Scotland aren't that much worse then a lowely PL team, and he was rated as the best player in their league under 23. You are right about Shelvey he is very unproven. Same with Ayala, very iffy and Amoo is very unproven.

Cetlic and Rangers would be lucky to finish in the top half of the Premiership, and everyone else wouldn't set the Championship alight. I wouldn't use the the SPL as a gauge of quality. Hopefully Wilson will adapt the the Premiership and be a good players for us, but players who have struggled in the Premiership have been stars in the SPL

Mate Celtic and Rangers current teams would struggle to finish top half of the championship at the moment. I kid you not. Two very poor sides at the moment.

look where their players are being transfered to with the exception of aiden mcgeady(possibly), I think that might be the level at the moment, maybe a few years ago it might of been different

                    apart from Wilson obviously

Sign a quality back up striker, replacement for Masch and get in a left back and I'll be happy enough.

I was trying to be generous, I think they'd be in the group of teams that battle against relegation for the majority of the season, whether they'd actually go down or not I don't know but I'd put them in the bottom/lower mid table section of the PL.

I'm unfortunate enough to see some SPL football and it's dire. Obviously the quality of the league doesn't determine the quality of the player, but I think for Wilson's sake it's probably better that he got out while he was young so he can continue to improve before he found his level in the SPL.

McGeady is a case in point, IMO he should have moved a while back if he were to be a top player. He's played too long against average/poor players and hasn't needed to push on and improve, now he's older it's more difficult to adapt his game.
