Fernando Torres stops police officer over photographer

Fernando Torres stopped a police officer to report a member of the press who was following him near his Woolton home.

The Spanish international pulled up in his black Aston Martin and stopped a passing patrol officer.

A press photographer in a car also stopped in Beaconsfield Road and was asked by the officer to stop tailing the 26-year-old footballer.

No formal action against the photographer was taken, police said.

The incident, on 2 August, only emerged after a photograph of Torres and the traffic officer appeared on the internet.

It had been alleged that Torres was caught speeding but the police have denied this was the case.

He recently returned to training with Liverpool after being part of the Spain squad which won the World Cup and re-affirmed his commitment to the Anfield side - who finished seventh last season - despite there being rumours of a move to Manchester City or Chelsea.

Liverpool FC are yet to release a comment.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The BBC in publishing the pictures they aren't exactly discouraging this sort of thing.
