West Brom at Home Build Up

    Liverpool - West Brom

With the Europa League safely navigated to the group stages Liverpool return to Premier League action with a match against West Brom at Anfield, which is a match that we really should win and if we don't, even at this early stage, it would most likely be right to worry slightly.

    Liverpool Team News:

Torres and Gerrard should return however Stevie's struggling with his back injury and that sees him rated as doubtful. Agger's concussion looks set to rule him out again and Maxi's virus will most likely keep him out again as well, Cole serves the second of his three match suspension.

    Player to watch: Kuyt

Dirk Kuyt is fresh from his commitment to the Reds and his Europa League winner in Turkey so the Dutchman goes into this in high spirits.

    West Brom Team News:

West Brom have some injury problems to content with. Cech, Mattock, Thomas and Miller all miss out due to injury problems.
    Player to watch: Carson

Scott Carson would be someone that we'd hope to work hard at Anfield and how the former Reds goalkeeper, who captains West Brom these days, reacts could make a lot of difference.
    Match Facts & Stats

The omens are good for Liverpool yet bad for West Brom as in the last 10 meetings West Brom have scored just one goal and in 8 PL meetings the Baggies have failed to score. 17 clean sheets in our last 20 matches against newly promoted sides, at Anfield, is also another stat in our favour as is the fact it's more than 40 years since West Brom beat us.

Things against us are the fact that we're on our longest run of matches without a PL win since January 2008, which is currently standing at four.

Victory would be our 2,000th in League football.

    Ref Watch:

    Lee Probert will officiate.

    Match Prediction:

Patience was the key against Trabzonspor on Thursday however it's not going to accepted against West Brom, on Sunday. They'll not be a walkover by any means but we'd be heavily favoured to beat them and an early goal would increase the chances of this. In my honest opinion we'll win so my prediction would be Liverpool 3 West Brom 0.

    Next Fixtures:

Away to Birmingham in the Premier League (After the international break.)

We need 3 points and a good performance to instill some confidence for the season ahead, we need to put the previous game at City out of our heads and Roy needs to work out how he wants the team to play

      One paper is tipping

Possible Starting XI: Reina; Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger; Kuyt, Lucas, Gerrard, Jovanovic; Torres, Ngog.

Does anyone expect a 442 at home ? Poulsen in place of Stevie if the backs not responded quick enough? Pacheco in the hole if Stevie's out in a 4231 formation?

      Thoughts

Just shoot on sight straight at Carson and we'll win 12-0.

Anything less than 3pts will be a disaster. I'd like to see Kelly in at RB, Johnson pushed up to right of midfield, Kuyt in behind FT.

            Reina

            Kelly
            Carragher
            Skrtel
            Agger

            Johnson
            Poulsen
            Gerrard
            Jovanovic

            Kuyt

            Torres

I don't think the 442 would be a bad option at home to a team like West Brom, away at City it was suicide. If we're ever going to play 442 this is the type of game to use it in, so IMO it will be useful to see if he goes with it again or if he's abandoning it.

bit of advice matthew st festival is on so town will be chocca stagecoach merseyside are on strike various road closures and temp bus stops. so if you are travelling in from outside the city and use public transport or get fleeced by a taxi it might take a bit more planning than usual
Oh I say his vision there was lovely

                      - hard to believe we all had such high hopes for Carson and Kirkland, look how they've turned out now. Kirkland's probbaly the worst of the two.

So if that's true, we're back to 4231.

                          Johnson Carra Skrtel Agger

                          Lucas Poulsen

                          Kuyt Gerrard Jovanovic

Lucas and Poulsen both starting at home to West Brom, i don't get it.

i think we only went to 442 because of player availability/fitness issues
