Our 25 man squad in full

With the close of the transfer window, all Premier League clubs are now required to submit their 25 man squads.

Each squad must include 8 homegrown players, and thus a maximum of 17 foreign players over the age of 21.

Liverpool, though, do not have enough players to actually name 25 players on their list. so there is room to purchase in January if a new owner is in place

    Homegrown Players: (8)

    Carragher
    Cole
    Darby
    Gerrard
    Johnson
    Jones
    Konchesky
all 3 in bold have been bought this TW
    Spearing

    Non-Homegrown Players: (14)

    Agger
    Aurelio
    Babel
    Itandje
    Jovanovic
    Kyrgiakos
    Kuyt
    Lucas
    Maxi
    Meireles
    Poulsen
    Reina
    Skrtel
    Torres

    Youngsters:
Players born after 1/1/89 and thus are unlimited in the squad and not required to be named in the 25 man list.

    Amoo
    Ayala
    Bouzanis
    Bruna
    Eccleston
    Gulacsi
    Hansen
    Ince
    Irwin
    Kelly
    Mavinga
    Ngog
    Pacheco

    Palsson
    Robinson

We have no problem at all it seems. But i thought Brad Jones was Australian?

I'd go for: Carragher, Cole, Darby, Gerrard, Johnson, Jones, Konchesky, Spearing, Agger, Aurelio, Babel, Jovanovic, Kyrgiakos, Kuyt, Lucas, Maxi, Meireles, Poulsen, Reina, Skrtel, Torres, Kelly, Ngog, Pacheco, Shelvey, Wilson.

Might possibly have to drop Shelvey to get either Gulacsi or Bouzanis in though.

Interesting dilemna for Roy when it comes to squad selection now...

Obviously the goalie and the back four more or less pick themselves

Reina, Johnson/Kelly, Carra/Skrtel, Agger/Kyrgiakos, Konchesky/Aurelio, with the most likely back four being the former of each pairing.

However, in midfield we will have

Kuyt, Maxi, Gerrard, Lucas, Poulsen, Moreiles (sp), Cole, Jova, Pacheco

And Torres, Ngog and Babel all upfront.

So, assuming maybe a 4-5-1, then

We get left with the conundrum of fitting Cole, Gerrard, Moreiles and Poulsen into 3 central slots, with Kuyt/Maxi/Jova on the right and left...or do we move Cole left? Or right? Gerrard on the right? Cole in the hole?

4-3-3...Kuyt,Torres, Babel/Jova up front, with Moreiles/Poulsen, Gerrard, Cole and no room for Maxi or Pacheco....

Anyway, i'm babbling....the point is, what will be Roy's favoured formation, and how will he pick a best 11??

Why?? As many under 21's as you like is the rule, regardless of their home-grown status?

            Reina

            Johnson
            Carra
            Agger
            Konchesky

            Kuyt
            Meireles
            Gerrard
            Cole
            Jovanovic

            Torres

That would be my starting lineup atm. Gerrard in the centre with Cole in behind.

I couldn't justify starting Jovanovic again right now. I think Babel deserves his place on the left at the minute. Other than that I would probably pick the same side, with Maxi pushing an under performing Kuyt hard for a start on the right.

Think i read that Roy will consider Babel as a striker only? So it's either Cole, Maxi or Jova for the left I think. Or Aurelio.

I think it would depend on who we are playing , against the lesser teams I'd play Meireles - Gerrard - Cole with Cole in the hole. But against the better teams I'd put Poulsen along Meireles with Gerrard behind Torres and Cole on the left with Kuyt on the right.
                  * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

That trio in bold, represents quality - assuming Meireles settles and adjusts properly.

Not sure about either of the wide men, though. If we had another good CM/DM, we could shift Cole out wide and play SG off Fernan.....N'Gog.

I think Poulsen will be a definite starter, as the only outright DM in the squad.

So we'd be looking at, in a 4-5-1

                        Reina
                        Johnson-Carra-Agger-Konchesky
                        Poulsen-Meireles
                        ??????-Gerrard-Cole
                        Torres

With the three behind Torres able to interchange ?

Or maybe even a 4-1-4-1, with Poulsen covering the backline, and a midfield 4 of Kuyt/Maxi, Gerrard, Meireles, Cole

But in both cases, i'm pushing Cole out towards the left, whereas i feel he'd be better in behind Torres instead.

How about a 4-3-3 formation instead

                        Gerrard-Poulsen-Meireles
                        Kuyt-Torres-Cole

??? ****ed if i know how to fit our midfield into a formation, and keep everyone happy and fit.

I think this thread is going way off course , It's about the 25 man squad that HAS to be named ,No if but's or maybe's and whether it's your choice or mine the opening post was bang on and it's A 22 man squad thats Roys only option with unlimited under 21's , now we are picking a starting 11 against ?????, team selection is dependant nowadays on the Opposition you play. Right thats me done get back on track lads just for the sake of our sanity

Agree with the above. I think Kuyt and Jova are both a bit iffy at the moment but if their performances can pick up it can work. I think Kuyt complements Johnson's attacking game but at the moment Maxi could easily come in for him. I think Jova has a lot of potential and thinking about it having someone 'solid' like Konchesky behind him would probably benefit Babel's game but as Roy says he is going to be a striker I ruled that out.

I wouldn't like to see Cole out left though and I would prefer Stevie in the middle I think that is where he really runs games from. It will be interesting to see how Meireles can make an impact.

                              Sorry

Thing is it is sorted, doesn't matter who the 25 are, we have our 8 homegrown, not enough foreign players, fill the squad with whoever as it doesn't actually matter.
