I think it's a sensible decision. I haven't seen much of Meireles to state that he'll be a better option than Lucas for tomorrow's match. He'll probably be on the bench in case we need him.

Lucas and Poulsen in the middle of the park is a depressing thought, home or away.

Forget Meireles, Roy could have deployed Maxi in centre mid along with Poulsen and let Gerrard play ahead of them, or Gerrard in centre mid with Maxi ahead, then brought Babel in or even Pacheco.

I'm not agreeing with your point. Obviously something had to change when Masch pulled out. You seemed to be justifying Roy's change to 4-4-2 because of the Masch situation and saying he had to go 4-4-2 which he clearly didn't. IMO the formation was the the major contributing factor to our defeat not the performance of the players as you think. We'll have to disagree on that one.

I haven't justified Roys reasons for changing things because I don't know them. I stated the much believed fact that we went 4231 originally and that after masch dropped out it went to 442. That is the main reason it changed. The other reasons I don't know, nor have I pretended to.

I could have blindly ignored all the facts and just instead assumed it was because one of the most respected managers in the game was tactically naiive. Instead I chose to look at things and put them all up for debate on here.

I find it strange that the team is being 'leaked' like this. The last time we had 'leaks' like this was during the Houllier years. Fact is, Hodgson has probably told the players who will start, which explains the 'leaks'. I'd rather have managers keeping players on their toes until the last minute and team selections available to opponents one hour or so before a match.

I'd rather they knew on the day before tbh so they can sort the team drills out. And let's be honest, we could ( and did ) guess most of that line up. The only possible suprises would be agger and meireles not starting.
