Absolutely. To me, it's no brainer but I am not so sure Roy will make any changes in that department.Originally posted by -V- View PostIts a joke that Agger isn't first choice. Thats got to change quickly.
Skrtle is rubbish and Carragher is going downhil. So we need a quality new centre-back but its not a priority position at the moment
Cannot really comprehend his infatuation for Skrtel but he is making a big mistake of not utilizing Agger in his natural role at the expense of Martin.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

I feel for Carragher as he is a legend for us but the whole defence could do with changing, we're gash at the moment and any time a cross is played in we look like we're going to concede.
I do think Carragher is close to finishing but I can't see him being dropped.
Agger imo is the best central defender we have but he's made of glass.
Skyrtel is gash and needs to be sacked off, him being chosen ahead of Agger is worrying.
Kyrgiakos is too slow and not good enough.
Glen Johnson as I've said numerous times is not good enough, he gets caught out too often, he's sloppy and doesn't always concentrate, he gives away daft free kicks, the only positive for me from Johnson is that he can get forward.
Some of the youngsters need to be blooded in. Danny Wilson looked good for the reserves the other night so that's a positive, he's very cool on the ball and looks very composed.
Ayala, again I don't think he is going to make it but he definitely needs more of a chance to prove himself as I don't think we've seen enough of him.
Kelly is going to be a gem of player no doubt it. Darby will be good too I reckon so at least the future is sort of bright.
We need at least 2 decent central defenders who are big lads that can clear the ball and not give us all heart attacks every time a ball is played into the box.
We look nervy at the moment, it's not nice to watch.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."

Always, keep your face to the sun, and shadows will fall behind you.

I'm not worried about the future regarding our central defence as Wilson,Kelly and Ayala will be good enough. As for the present,You know what carra is like,he'll make up for this like he always does. Some people were saying he was finished last season.
I would like to see him play less games though and give Skrtel and Agger a go to see if they can form a solid parnership.

That's what people need to remember with Agger - he's terribly injury prone, can hardly rely on him can we?Originally posted by Slinky Skills View PostI feel for Carragher as he is a legend for us but the whole defence could do with changing, we're gash at the moment and any time a cross is played in we look like we're going to concede.

So all these demanding he plays, you know fine rightly he'll be out injured again in no time.
Furthermore i don't think he's anywhere near dominant or strong enough to be a top centre back. You can be good on the ball all you want but your job is to defend first and foremost.

So we should not play Cole and Torres as they are also injury prone and we can hardly rely on them to?Originally posted by Rudo View PostThat's what people need to remember with Agger - he's terribly injury prone, can hardly rely on him can we?

Agger should be a starter period. He gives us more than Skrtel on any day and only God knows why Roy is keeping him on the bench.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

Biggest problem is that the leader of our defence has lost his pace and aint as commanding in the air as Hyypia is to compensate.Originally posted by Marsh View Postso is there a sort of concensus that whilst our defense looks fragile at the moment in the future we thing certainly at the centre we will be fine. A problem is that the future arent quite ready to step in so that transition wont be smooth.
That said, I think he can do a job this season. It just pisses me off to think he will never be a regular in a title winning side for us. I think this season was his last chance, with maybe a shot next season. The failure of our team at present and rumours of no improvement in the squad for foreseeable future just makes it all sink in.Forwards.......

I think Roy has stuck with Carrar and Skrtel as when he first came in he had to play Agger LB. This meant that Carra and Skrtel have had more schooling on Roys ideas as a central pairing. It would have been a risk today to break up the partnership. In fairness to Skrtel he did nothing wrong.Originally posted by Mostar View PostSo we should not play Cole and Torres as they are also injury prone and we can hardly rely on them to?

I think now Man Utd is out the way Roy is free to make changes. Be interesting to see what partnership he settles on long term.Forwards.......

Hyypia looked very ropey if not past it and gone at one point. the fact he got rested etc helped him to come back and then he could even play in games on the run for us.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostBiggest problem is that the leader of our defence has lost his pace and aint as commanding in the air as Hyypia is to compensate.

the same could happen for carra
the difference might be that carra has always played close to the wind however his timing of the tackle got him and us out of trouble many many times. the problem is when you inevitabely get worse that type of defending will show it up more than others.
i still think he has more football in him though we just need to use him better. the problem is now we are crap at the back and actually what you want and need is stability at the moment and that isnt always what is best for cara long term?
not sure about any of that just thinking aloud

I do wonder if Johnsons arrival has affected Carragher
It looks that way to me
I'm not saying Carragher isnt on the downward slope but the problem has been magnified by the arrival of Johnson and his lack of defensive nous
As for Skrtel over Agger that is a ****ing joke as is paying £5 million plus for Konchesky dear oh dearBob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

I don't like the sounds of this "not playing footy from the back" chat. Not the Liverpool way at all. I'm with Agger on this one, and hope that this isn't the type of football Roy is intending on us playing... It amuses me how nobody on Sky at all mentioned the old Zonal v. Man Marking debate anymore. We got ****ed 3 times today from crosses and last season all the chat would have been about the system we played.Originally posted by Chris View PostAgger is not sounding to happy at the mo either. Found this on YNWA :
"The manager's philosophy is that we pay football in attack, but not at the back. That's not my style. I'm not that type of player. I like to keep the ball on the ground, and that's what I'll keep doing. Time will show if he (Hodgson) doesn't want to play me because of that".
"I'll try to change myself, but I will never be a player who hoofs the ball at every opportunity."
" I'll fight for my chance. I know what I stand for, and I think he (Hodgson) does too".
"It's the manager's decision. We have to respect that. That's how it is".Modifying post.
