    Dani Pacheco

Just noticed that he wasn't in the squad for Utrecht - is he injured, or just dropped. Had such high hopes for him, but his two full appearances this season, against Rabotnicki and Northampton were both a bit disappointing.
I think that we all thought that this would be his breakthrough season, but to be honest, apart from the odd cameo at the end of games, he hasn't yet lived up to expectations - any comments?

He really should be in the squad for tonight's game. He's not gonna be able to live up to expectations by playing one game a month...especially when he's playing in mix n match teams against poor opposition.

He was one of the better players in the Northampton game. Trying to make things happen. I think he will be a good player for us. He needs time to adjust to the premiership though. Its totally different to youth and reserve team football.

He's one of those young players that everyone desperately wants to be good, despite the fact whenever he has played for the first team he has looked totally average.

        He wont make it here.

Thing is Canales is making decent headway with Real Madrid and has shown he can hack it in La Liga. I know the Prem is different but Pacheco looked every bit as good a player as Canales in that young Spanish side. No way am I writing the kid off yet.

This isnt meant to be a criticism of Hodgson but I think he prefers experienced players rather than youths. Seems to be a pattern with him.

i just think he needs a bit of time and game time, and to be playing in a side thats well at least half decent - not totally ****ing ****.

Also, where does he play - i think he needs to get a few games (like kelly and shelvey) playing in a side that includes, reina, carragher, meireles, gerrard, cole, torres - instead of, kyriakos, lucas, poulsen, jovanovic, babel and ngog

what i like about pacheco, and for his age, it's what has made him stand out a bit which is why we have high expectations of him, is he looks a bit of a fighter, an arrogant greedy little ******* with 100% total belief in his own ability - i think thats crucial for young players trying to break through - shelvey, like mentioned by someone in the utrect thread, looks like he has that too. That when they step on the pitch, they're not fazed by taking the ball of gerrard to try a pass they thinks on - pacheco and shelvey have that something about them, that i don't see in say spearing or darby, or many other youngsters in recent years.

Didn't he say he wanted to bring the youth through? I suppose its a catch 22 thing. You want to bring the younger players through the team, but cant untill the team is playing better. Don't want to destroy the kid before he has even had a chance

He did say that yeah. I suppose he doesnt want to play them in case the results are bad and.....

Is it confirmed he's not in the squad? Unless it's an injury etc. that's just ridiculous!

He also said that we would play a pass and move football....

I don't think players like Shelvey and Pacheco will get a fair chance as long as Roy is the manager.

Hodgson is full of it. He talked about giving players chances be it youth or fringe players but he hasn't and won't. He'd rather play the likes of Poulsen who for me is the worst central midfielder we've had since I've been watching Liverpool - worse than Diao.

Speaking to LFC Weekly magazine, new Reds manager Roy Hodgson was asked to describe the style of play that he feels would best describe his philosophy as a manager. He came up with a surprising answer:

“All the things I’ve always liked are the things Liverpool were famous for in their heyday. Pass and move, always move it quickly and once you lose it get back in to position. That was the mantra which took Liverpool through their great years. I like a high-tempo passing game. I like players to work hard, I like players to get back in position. Those are my principles. I was influenced by the Liverpool team which dominated the 70s with all its great players and playing the football they played.”
