i thought roy was the business when he started out. liked what he was saying. thought he was a really great coach until i saw his side try to play football. that did it for me, really.

I doubt very much that our board would allow that kind of deal. If the manager said that he want to sell Torres and replace him with Carlton Cole and three, four other players then they would probably allow it.

The manager must also think about how much the player is worth off the pitch for us etc....so if he want to sell Torres then he know very well that he must replace him with quality.

As long as it doesn't hurt the team off the pitch then it should always be the managers decision. The manager know that the board also have a duty to protect the value of the club and can't allow everything.

The point was, if he sells Torres and thinks Carlton Cole can fill his place, then i wouldnt back it.

Forget replacing with 3 or 4 players - you can only put 11 on the park and we either play with 1 or 2 strikers.

On the basis of that example I'd agree but to me it only applies to Roy. He is the same manager who loaned Aqua man for basically free

And then signed Merieles who is average. Not many Porto fans were mourning the loss of his services which says it all really.

as fookin ridiculous as this sounds, we'd have to back him...

the manager knows more than any of us. about how he wants the team to play, about the effort and commitment of star players, about behind the scenes contract/transfer talks etc etc.

if roy wanted to sell torres and buy carlton cole, he has to be backed or if not backed, sacked. simple as that.

i presume there would be some logic behind it - he would be also spending ~ 40 mill on other areas of the 1st team. if you're saying sell torres for 15 mill and spend all of that on cole then clearly the board must spot this madness and not let it happen. but if he has grand plans to make the team as a whole stronger and torres cash is key to implementing that, then he has to do it. no player is bigger than the club (or 1st team...)

basically, you have to back a manager or sack him. anything less and you're just tieing his hands and preventing him from achieving his vision. if you're going to do this, you may as well get rid anyway and find a manager with a vision you do believe in.

                      I disagree.

                      Merieles is a quality player.

Imo he is a good player but he is not brought in to replace Masch. He is completely different type of a footballer and I think he will prove to be worthy L4 colours. He needs time to adjust that's all and hopefully Roy and even better a new manager will keep him playing.

i think meireles is our 2nd attempt to replace xabi actually. maybe not like for like, but to fill the gaping hole in creativity in our midfield that went empty all last season. bout ****in time too. now if we could only actually play him in his position...

Meireles was bought to play wide midfield.

I doubt that Roy know that, he said that himself.
