former senator and avowed lefty joe scarbrough is out of politics and now hosts a morning politics news show where he calls it like he sees it. straight talking anti-republican. perhaps not the most knowledgeable fan, but got the advice he was looking for from the boston management.

basically says he was looking for a team to support in 2006 after the world cup ended, and the management at boston (some of whom had liverpool memorabilia in their offices, and one of whom allegedly recounted istanbul with tears in his eyes) told him who the best side in england are.

here's the first draft of part of the transcript...........

" We're very excited to have joining us the whole of morning Joe on. And that's NBC Joe Scarborough. Joe thank you for joining us and not in the studio but virtually for joining us. It's great -- I got out of the day I can see you're wearing that Liverpool with pride so tell me a little bit about becoming a Liverpool fan."

" I'm excited to be here because there aren't a lot of places a 47 year old guy can walk around the New York City and wear a Liverpool shirt so it's nice to be able to wear one. I saw the World Cup in 2006 with my son who's in college and fell in love with the sport and when it is was over we were kinda depressed so we decide to pick PL teams to support...he chose Chelsea which i said is kinda like cheering for Microsoft...... I was actually down to Arsenal and Liverpool, leaning towards Liverpool. And I went up to Boston to see friends ironically friends that are Red Sox management. And went in a couple of their offices there were like Liverpool shrines everywhere. They played the game from 05 in istanbul... They talked about the reds coming out of the halftime. Down three nothing. And the fans singing you'll never walk alone and look over at the vice president of the Red Sox had tears in his eyes. I felt okay this is really hardcore...this is tradition...and i've been spending saturday and sunday mornings having my heartbroken ever since....my friend who works for the red sox was there.

I'm very hopeful I don't think we'll get relegation and i hope the red sox owners come in and turn things around. I've been Red Sox fan since 1975 I suffered with the Sox. these guys took over in 2002. 2 Years later they won their first World Series in 86 years. I think they can get us our nineteenth championship within a couple years."

" And the thing is. These guys have a real love for Liverpool and i'm a Liverpool fan ironically because of them when I heard about this is a week ago i was thrilled... all you need to know about hicks is what he said about the Liverpool fans a couple of days ago....... when you talk about One of the most Faithful loyal fan bases on the planet and call them a noise and a distraction You don't understand Liverpool and you don't deserve to basically be holding that trust ....I would tell you this....the guys that run the Red Sox understand that Liverpool much like the Red Sox is a team you don't own....it's a trust that you're given to hold on to for as long as you're allowed to...and they understand that."

"Joe, what do you make of how Tom Hicks and George Gillett have handled this. The news that the Boston group are gonna try by the club and they're trying to drag us through the court? as a fan what do you make of this?."

" Well it is not is what they've been doing over the past couple months but they've been doing for the past several years. they Obviously didn't have Liverpool's best interest in mind they didn't they wanted to turn it and burn it.... Making money off it.... look what they did these guys ruin everything they touch, look at the Texas Rangers here again I don't think they're great business men...and they're not fans.....I don't think they understand anything about Liverpool. You know we've been in this sort of no man's land for the past several years these guys are deep in debt. And we're paying for it and the teams paying for it...people like Torres...i have so much respect for that guy for coming back again this year are putting the scarf on when he won the world cup, i was screaming for Holland. But when I saw him put that scarf on afterwards i thought my God that guy's all class and a I think he deserves more -- the fans deserve more, I think the city deserves more.

Joe, let me ask you this.... do you think the Red Sox owners are gonna have a tough time because the stigma these guys have left as American owners?...

I don't think so........ I think they have a responsibility though. Now they've got a responsibility to show the fans immediately that they're going to connect with the team and the city...they understand their history they understand the greatness of Liverpool they understand I think as much as any Americans could understand why this club above all other clubs not only in the UK but across the world is such a special special thing like -- they understand it's a trust they've been given. And I think the Fans are going to notice a difference almost immediately I can tell you this...this one of the things I'm most excited about it as far as Liverpool goes..... I went to the see a game in Boston in 1999. People were talking about tearing down and -- creating a new fenway park. I looked around there to see Some of the greatest players of all time I said this is like a cathedral Of baseball how do you tear it down. Those guys came and rebuilt so much better than it ever was. I go out to 10-15 games a year just to sit at Fenway. Anfield... I can't imagine anybody talking about tearing it down and what's gonna happen I think is do the same as they did to Fenway they'll probably expand it to 60-65000 seats and make it just as special as they've made fenway. I'm really really excited -- the fans will see very quickly how different these guys are.

what i love is that he was telling about walking into the red sox office and it was like a liverpool shrine and that they showed him the instanbul final and the director of the sox had tears in his eyes
