Carragher signs new 2 year deal

Liverpool stalwart Jamie Carragher has signed a new two-year deal to keep him at the club until the summer of 2013.

The 32-year-old put contract talks on hold earlier this year, but new Reds boss Roy Hodgson made it one of his top priorities to sort out Carragher's situation and now the long-serving defender has agreed the extension.

Carragher has established himself as a key member of the Liverpool side and a big fans' favourite since breaking into the team in January 1997.

The former England international enjoyed a testimonial against Everton last month as reward for his services to the club.

Carragher has made 641 appearances for the Reds and he is currently in his 15th season with the Anfield outfit.

News of his new deal will come as a major boost amid the ongoing takeover talk surrounding the Reds and this weekend's Merseyside derby.

Liverpool go into the match in the Premier league relegation zone after suffering a shock home defeat by Blackpool prior to the international break.

Will be his last two years playing for us IMO, still no matter what a complete liverpool legend
The times they are a changin'.

Hodgson or whoever the next manager may be should look for a long term replacement for Carra. Skrtel is inconsistent and Agger is made from Glass, we need a leader who is quick and solid in the air (feck knows who though).

Carragher should then be eased in to the Hyypia role, use him as and when needed and certainly not first choice.
        We come not to play.

This was the beginning of the end of Rafa.

          Carra won!

          The club lost!

I feel bad saying it, but I too wasn't exactly over the moon when I read that.

Hmm i think Carra will only play a bit part role come next season, we need someone like Chris Samba IMO, Roger Johnson/Cahill are good lads, Wilson needs more game time too. Aerial ability is non existent in our current starting backline.

I can't see much wrong with trying to develop a Kyrgiakos/Agger partnership. Was chatting about this with a Red in work the last few days and he's of the opinion that - while Carra is a legend, the embodiment of everything good about LFC, all the other superlatives he deserves - his reputation and influence in the dressing room might be overshadowing his work on the pitch at this stage...

I really like Kyrgiakos. He gives 100% for 90+ minutes, he's good in the air and he's a goal threat from corners, he isn't remotely Sky-friendly... has to happen at some stage that Carra gets phased out. If Agger is as good as most seem to believe he is (not sure personally), then why not stick in a bruising aerial beast with him. Could be ideal, non?
