Don't blame Roy Hodgson for 'difficult period', John Henry tells Liverpool FC fans by Richard Buxton. Published Mon 15 Nov 2010 13:14
Liverpool owner John Henry has attempted to take the heat off Roy Hodgson by telling fans that no individual is solely responsible for the club's current on field decline.

Calls for Kenny Dalglish to succeed the current Reds manager rang out from supporters following a dismal performance in Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Stoke City, seeing the pressure Hodgson was placed under at the beginning of last month intensify once again.

In an interview with Save LFC, an internet pressure group set up specifically to help in the efforts to oust former owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks, Henry described the current slump as a 'very difficult period' but refused to allow the manager or players to take the blame.

New England Sports Ventures (NESV) principal owner cited last weekend's win over Chelsea as cause for optimism that their plans to deliver the winning factor back to Anfield will be a relatively smooth transition of the team can deliver those performances on a regular basis.

He said: "The club has gone through a very difficult period and the period has not ended. We’ve dealt with baseball players and race car drivers at the highest level. LFC also have players at the highest level.

"These players all want the same things. They want to win. It’s up to us to build a winner going forward. It’s up to them to determine to win now. We saw a certain team on the field against Chelsea last week that showed what they can do.

"This club can be better. Blaming the manager or any one particular player is simply wrong. This club needs to play up to their potential every match. If they don’t, they won’t win."

Speculation has mounted in recent weeks over which names and faces will be making their way to the red half of Merseyside in the winter transfer window and who may also leave, but Henry insists that every player he has spoken to insists that they want to remain at the club.

However he has ruled out any plans for any grand rebuilding process in January and instead believes that the summer will allow NESV to begin to shape their Anfield dynasty.

He added: "We have work to do and must invest in this club to improve it on the field. Can that be successfully done in January? A number of people I’ve talked with doubt it.

"Most people seem to think it will be the summer before we can really begin to improve. So the players – all eleven each week – have to be on the same page every match and have to live up to the history and respect this club has engendered – no matter what.

"I’ve met with a number of our players and had private discussions with some of them. I’ve been greatly impressed by them personally. They are all exceptionally bright and they all want to be here.

"We need everyone focused on what needs to be done in the next match facing us and during that match. The club should not have to settle for less. As one insightful player told me, “The spirit of the side needs to be there like a family – as one.”

Henry's words at this stage mean absolutely nothing. What's he expected to say? "This Hodgson dude is clueless and we are looking to replace his ancient ass ASAP"?

Course they're on to him. Personally I thought they were researching the arse out of every candidate, making sure we get the right man. The most difficult thing in all of this is who do we replace him with. Obviously Hodgson has to go and he will go, they just have to find the right man.

However, the abysmal results may hasten his departure and maybe we'll end up with a caretaker. Either way he'll be gone sooner rather than later.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Very true. I just hope you've heard some information that leads you to believe his days are numbered.

            Yes

Hes had at least one strike from what I have heard (possibly two)

They know more about the game than they are portraying whether that is personnal knowledge or knowledge acquired I dont know

You see Shaggy, everything Roy has done would lead us to the logical conclusion that Roy will be sacked very soon. But NESV are new to the sport and I really do wonder if they ate being badly advised by someone with regards Roy.

It's crazy that he wasn't sacked pre Everton. Crazy he wasn't sacked after Everton. Crazy he wasn't sacked this very morning. But the craziness continues. No doubt Roy will blah a couple of wins, and then once again we'll fall down and fail to impress once again. I could actually see Roy hanging on all year, winning the odd game here and there to keep us mid table and his head above water.

Well thank **** for that. How he's not had three strikes and out I'll never know, but one or two is better than nothing.

His days are numbered, it's just a question of how many days...it needs to happen pretty much now.

Its not that crazy that they havent sacked him before

They have been steadily taking advice and acquiring knowledge

I think its going to be coming to a head soon

They wouldn't want a caretaker manager. They would want someone who could come in right now, their ideal candidate. I guess they would be prepared to pay off the contract of the manager in question, so maybe a little patience wouldn't go amiss.
                        Are we winning?

It wasn't and isn't crazy, because there's no-one lined up. We all want him sacked yesterday but they can't just steam in and sack him without an alternative. Hodgson is effectively a caretaker and IMO will remain so until we find our man.

No way are NESV being badly advised IMO. For a start Henry has had a long meeting with Tomkins and you don't need to be a rocket surgeon to work out how that conversation went. He'll be gone.

Short of saying 'they want the ideal candidate' which is obvious, how do you know they dont want a caretaker manager in the interim?

I've been banging the drum for Kenny as temporary manager, and i still havent seen or heard a valid reason why this wouldnt be better for us than keeping Bodgson.

Mate they might be new to the sport, but so's Fernandinho, and even he can see Roy should go. That says all you need to know for me
