Roy Hodgson is fans' choice.. for the sack
    By Derek McGovern 31/12/2010

Roy Hodgson has asked Liverpool fans for their backing and they have obliged - they're backing him to be sacked.

Hodgson is a man in the wrong place (football) at the wrong time and two wrongs will never make a right, just as Glen Johnson will never make a rightback.

Against Wolves on Wednesday Hodgson came up against Mensa man Mick McCarthy and was outflanked, outwitted, and out-thought - now, surely, he will just be out.

The immediate reaction of Hills was to make him 11-4 second favourite for the Sack Race, just behind Avram Grant. And it was nice to see somebody finally behind Grant. The immediate reaction of punters was to lump on - so much so that by 3pm yesterday he was down to 5-4 favourite for the chop.

Hodgson apologists say he hasn't had the rub of the green but he's definitely had the rub of the face. Grant has had the rub of everything else.
Even worse than the teams Hodgson selects are the words he selects. Buttering up Fergie after arriving at Anfield was the second-worst thing he could do to Liverpool fans (arriving at Anfield was the worst).

But he's now criticised Kopites and as a Liverpool manager there are two other things you must never do - first, criticise Kopites; second, sign Paul Konchesky.

Hodgson is 6-4 with Paddy Power to still be Liverpool manager at the end of the season. If he is I'll give you the money myself.

You never know, football is football. It could be in five years' time, ten years' time, two years' time. We have two years of a contract here, we are really pleased here, the people are very nice, the fans are very similar to Liverpool fans, with passion, so everything is going well."

But Liverpool is home? "Yeah-it's the only house we have. Liverpool is my home and I will come back."

Apart from the cheap dig a Glen, I thought that was quite funny.

Exclusive – Barnes: Liverpool fans should support Hodgson

John Barnes has urged Liverpool supporters to stop criticising Roy Hodgson and get behind him.

Hodgson is under huge pressure after a difficult start to his Reds reign and hasn’t helped his cause by blasting the club’s fans following Wednesday's home defeat to Wolves.

But Barnes insists the former Fulham chief should be given time to mark his mark at Anfield.

“Getting on his back is not going to help the team,” Barnes told Drive Time. “That wasn’t the wisest decision he made to criticise the fans, he should never do that. However, the fans should support him.

“Roy has to try and instil his footballing philosophy on the team. Coming to Liverpool after they have been used to Rafa [Benitez] for six years then all of a sudden for Roy to instil his ideas is going to take time.

“It’s difficult all of a sudden to change it overnight. Yes they are not playing particularly well, particularly cohesively, but Roy has to be given time.”

Barnes believes his old club’s struggles may stem from the fact that star duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres are treated differently to their team-mates.

He added: “The most important person at the football club is the manager. Not Torres, not Gerrard. It wasn’t Dalglish when he played, it wasn’t me, it was the manager.

“What Liverpool are doing is putting certain players above other players and that’s the problem. The manager’s the most important one.

“You cannot allow players to rule and unfortunately what you have at Liverpool is Gerrard and Torres who seem to be above the rest of the players so it’s not a happy situation.”

If the manager can't control players like Gerrard and Torres then he simply isn't strong enough.

Either the club sell both of them or they sack Roy.

                Tricky one....

Anyway, why are we taking credence from Barnes? What does he know about what's going on in the club?

Why are people obsessed whith this "time" ****. Sure, people need time to achieve things but don't these ******s realise you've got to get the appointment right in the first place. ie Wenger, Ferguson etc. By their logic you could install a ****ing chimpanzee as manager and 5 years later - BINGO!!

**** off, what about the arch backstabber Carragher, agitating to get rid of the last manager in order to get a bumper contract extension?

And Barnes can **** off too - first we had the will-he-won't-he-sign-for-us saga in 1987, that resulted in us withdrawing our original offer. Then we had the will-he-won't-he-sign-a-contract-extenstion saga that resulted in him signing for an extra year at a then massive 8k a week.

                      You have issues.

Simple question, can you answer it i wonder...

What ACTUAL EVIDENCE do you have that Carragher is what you say he is?

                        I 'hear' things.

Did you answer my last post vis-à-vis the promises allegedly made to Cole? I can’t seem to find the reply.

Cole's buddies told me. They sing like chirpy cockney sparrows, and reveal everything that goes on at the Club. Long may it continue so I can keep the internet informed.

What I'm referring to isn't a new signing or the new CEO. It's not as good as "Roy's been sacked" but it's not a kick in the teeth either.

He is talking about the headlines from the papers tomorrow
"All I'll ever do is all I've ever done in any job, and that's promise to fight for my life for the supporters and the people of the city"
