Every player is open to praise as well as critisim. Carragher has been a magnificent servent for our football club but sadly he has been going downhill since we finished runners up in the league. In fact the first game of the following season against Spurs he made that horrendous challenge when he burst Skrtle open with a flying header when Skrtle was in control of the situation.
There are times when he surprises me though and turns in an excellent performance but they are too few and far between.
His long ball from the back football is horrible to watch (funnily enough suits Hodgsons tic tacs) the timing of his headers is also poor, he has no pace and makes bad decisions. That a side his blocking is excellent and he would throw himself under a bus if it meant keeping the opposition out.

That's a pretty fair assessment of Carra these days, his best is behind him that is certainly true but he can still do a job for us on occasions - should he be 1st choice no, does he deserve some of the character assainations that are seen on here - no.
Be nice to see a bit more respect given to our players, certainly ones that deserve it for the service over the years.

Not overly struck on Skrtel either, too many mistakes and once he has a wobble it continues for the rest of the game, ideally new partner for Agger or see how Wilson/Kelly get on.
New 1st choice CB for me is actually quite important, I really still don't think the 1st 11 is that far off - just tactics, formation etc...... this season don't suit us at all

All I can say on this debate is that if we want to WIN the league, we need a defence that doesn't have Carra as a first choice starter. We need better.
For our current state Carra is fine. And him and Agger is still our best partnership. By that you can probably figure out how highly I rate Skrtel and Soto. Not very.
All this said, if we sold Soto and brought in a good, solid CB with pace, I think we'd be good enough in that department for next season. A first choice of for example, Agger and Cahill with Carra and Skrtel in reserve would be very good. Then hopefully by the end of next season one of Wilson, Ayala or Kelly would be ready to step up and replace Carra in the first team squad of 4 CB's.Forwards.......

Think Carra could be manager next time we'll be in a position to do that.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostAll I can say on this debate is that if we want to WIN the league, we need a defence that doesn't have Carra as a first choice starter. We need better.

I'd argue that there are a of people that don't rate Carragher, and that he isn't regarded as one of the best defenders in the country.
What a point of view though; alledgedly there are stacks of people that have a different opinion so that means you're not entitled to you're opinion. Sure.

Oh look, stacks of poeple think John Terry is the best defender ever and is a national treasure wronged by Big Bad Capello, and David Beckham is the Messiah; please don't disagree with them, gimp boy.

I reckon that his best days are behind him but he is still a very good defender and still one of the leagues best, but next season he should be fazed out and either Cahill or Wilson should be partnering Agger with skittles as backup in case Danny cuts himself on a blade of grass.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostAll I can say on this debate is that if we want to WIN the league, we need a defence that doesn't have Carra as a first choice starter. go away you muppet. Terry is not the player he was and neither is Ferdinand but they are still very good defenders and still regarded as one of the best in the league.Originally posted by GorbyPeacePrize View Post

Remember when we beat Chelsea in the 2005 semi final? If we were back in that situation tomorrow I'd pick Carra over every member in our squad and every other possible player we could bring in. When it comes to backs to the wall defending, there are still none better.Originally posted by murder_inc View PostI reckon that his best days are behind him but he is still a very good defender and still one of the leagues best, but next season he should be fazed out and either Cahill or Wilson should be partnering Agger with skittles as backup in case Danny cuts himself on a blade of grass.
But we really do need to step further up the pitch and that I'm afraid is Carra's current achilies heel. No way I'd let him go though.Forwards.......

The point I was making must have gone right over your head, just like one of Carragher's hoofs.Originally posted by murder_inc View Postgo away you muppet. ok so people are allowed different opinions, agree with that - don't agree with how you describe Carra in your posts, shows a lack of class and probably a very loose grasp of the English language.Originally posted by GorbyPeacePrize View PostThe point I was making must have gone right over your head, just like one of Carragher's hoofs.
Carra is past his best certainly, but no need to be crass and rude about how you describe him hey, the bloke has done an awful lot for LFC over the past decade or soLast edited by RichC; 04-01-11, 12:16 AM.
