Ben Smith from the times alleges that the owners have already decided to sack him but they're refraining to make this public because they haven't identified anyone yet for his replacement (or more precisely, the long term replacement isn't available yet / or the short term replacement hasn't been identified or agreed to take the role).

If this is true, then Hodgson must know this. Then, it's a really tricky situation as he's in no man's land and would still expect to get results. If he doesn't know it via official mediums, then he's been sacked via the press.
