New Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford is already showing how much of a company man he can be.

According to Hall of Famer and NESN correspondent Peter Gammons, the new Red Sox signing couldn't find the right color tie for his introductory news conference on Saturday, so he turned to one of his new bosses.

"Carl Crawford wanted to wear a red tie to his presser," Gammons tweeted. "[Red Sox executive VP and COO] Sam Kennedy gave him a Liverpool FC tie, thus merging MLB and Premier League."

Liverpool FC, of course, is the English Premier League soccer club purchased by Red Sox owner John Henry and his business group Fenway Sports Ventures.

It was a busy day for Red Sox ownership with the Crawford news conference at 10 a.m., followed by a 12:30 p.m. ET kickoff for Liverpool's match with Newcastle.

It may not have been the ones that Roy wears, but it's red and i appreciate the sentiment and gesture.

Any Kennedy from that part of the world will claim to be related in some way.

              Is that a Patriots avatar?

yes, because a red tie could not possibly be construed to be associated with a club such as the red sox.

I've been looking in on one of the Red Sox forums since we were taken over and they keep saying have faith in regards to Henry/Werner. Heres a thread i posted earlier on there.

Everything about FSG's track record states that they will get this right.

As for them knowing nothing about football, I'll concede that point.

But you could have said the same thing about them and baseball when they bought the Red Sox in 2001.

Perhaps they've studied the history and were reluctant to be responsible for the first in-season sacking of a Liverpool manager. So they gave Roy more time than he deserved. I'm guessing they are learning their lesson.

Bottom line is, they are smart, successful people who love sports. They're fans.

                  They will get this right.

And for the record, I HATE the ****ing Red Sox.

                    that's not true.

werner and henry are not only life long baseball fans, but both have previously owned other teams. henry owned the marlins, while werner owned the padres. i have no doubt that when they took over boston they had fully formed ideas and opinions which allowed them to hit the ground running. it's likely that they are still sorting out a philosophy. i think they know they want us to be attractive and to win, but going about that is a little much for them atm. i do think they will bring this team back to glory but it could be hard going for the first little bit.

it sucks but i think in the end we'll be laughing. doesn't make today any more appealing though.

I'm not sure what people expect them to be saying tbh. Is it just impatience in the age of twitter that has everyone quite so worked up? They know Roy is ****, so they're not going to just say we back Roy 100%. They'd get death threats even if they were barking enough to think it. And saying they don't support him is basically sacking him in public.

And to sack someone and employ a replacement, even if you have an agreement in principle with someone beforehand, is not always a one day task in the real world, this is people with lives we're talking about after all, especially when working from another continent.

This is not directed at you, but people need to calm the **** down really. Don't insist on being the first to know **** and get spun into a tizzy by professional bull****ters and TV time filling. If you didn't find out until you read the Metro the day after he was sacked it would make no difference to your life.

Things are moving, that much is pretty obvious. If it takes a week rather than a day, well meh, who dies?

Spot on. No-one has a clue whats going on behind the scenes, yet panic and abuse of the owners is everywhere. The Sky/Twitter generation.

This is a huge decision. Not the sacking of Roy, but the appointment of his replacement. It's quite possible that those they have approached have turned them down. The owners would look a lot worse if they sacked Roy and we were left with no manager for a month. If the next appointment is not the correct one, we could go down.

                        FFS he is still here

Ralph Rangnick quit at the weekend, the NESV numpties should give him a short term contract to the end of the season with the provision of a long term contract based on his performance. There is absolutely nothing to lose, we are fighting relegation , words I thought I would never use.

Delay over axing Roy Hodgson hurting Liverpool FC

Jan 6 2011 By Ben Thornley

JOHN HENRY took just weeks to decide Roy Hodgson was not the man to restore Liverpool to former glories, by all accounts. Presumably it was around the time he discovered that he’d been misled over the extent of Hodgson’s success elsewhere in his career.

It should not, however, have taken Liverpool’s ninth Premier League defeat of the season to expose the Londoner’s lack of credentials for even the short term.
Fenway Sports Group have impressed in their start to life as Anfield’s custodians, their dignified and considered approach a tonic to the blundering and bluster of the Hicks and Gillett years.

Now, though, is the time for FSG to prove they mean business and show they can provide the leadership and direction the club have lacked in recent times.
Even before the wretched defeat to Blackburn it was known that they were hunting for a successor to Hodgson in either a permanent or temporary capacity.
But the delay in ending the Londoner’s disastrous tenure is damaging Liverpool. The uncertainty is benefiting no-one.

FSG appear weak while they allow Hodgson to lurch from one setback to another.
It’s affecting the players, who are failing to perform for a lame duck manager, and attendances, as supporters become increasingly disillusioned.
The situation can hardly be doing Hodgson any favours either.
FSG should not have allowed it to go on this long.

The warning signs were there even before they took the reigns.
Three successive league victories at the end of October and start of November hinted at a recovery. But the pitiful away reverse at Stoke after that sequence was more in keeping with how Hodgson’s time in charge has played out.

In their defence, the new owners have had to rely heavily on the advice of others having arrived at Anfield with little prior knowledge or experience of football.
Given that the men who snubbed Kenny Dalglish in favour of Hodgson will have had the ear of Henry and his colleagues, it’s hardly surprising the former Fulham boss has lasted so long.

But the thought of Liverpool entering Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Hodgson still in charge is frightening to supporters. Yet with a new man at the helm, even the most temporary of caretaker bosses, it could represent the perfect opportunity to relaunch this awful campaign and move away from a forgettable chapter in the club’s history.

Dalglish is the obvious candidate, and it’s surprising how reluctant FSG appear to have been to explore that option.

He’d unify supporters, players and management in a way no other figure could.
It’s irrelevant that he’s been out of the game for so long.
At this point Liverpool require leadership and inspiration instead of a man who scratches his face when the pressure escalates.
If Hodgson is still in charge on Sunday, Liverpool fans will be forgiven for scratching their heads.

Thornley is spot on there. It's embarrassing the owners haven't dismissed him yet.
