    Reserves v Blackburn

    Jimmy Rice, 19th Oct 2010
    LiverpoolFC.tv

John McMahon's reserve team will hope to return to winning ways when they travel to Blackburn tonight - and the only place you can watch the game unfold is right here on the club's official website.

The second string were beaten 1-0 by West Ham last time around but have a great chance to bounce back against Iain Brunskill's boys, who are without a league victory so far this season.

Live coverage of the contest will be aired on LFCTV Online from 7pm BST before being repeated along with post-match reaction on LFC TV from 10pm.

2-1 what a freekick from the Blackburn youngster, bent it back across the keeper with his left peg!

            Mixed emotions for McMahon

John McMahon couldn’t hide his frustration after seeing his side held to a 3-3 draw by Blackburn Rovers in an absorbing Barclays Premier Reserve League encounter on Tuesday night.

The Reds let a 2-0 lead as Blackburn stormed back in the second half to lead 3-2, but Nathan Eccleston added his second goal of the night to get a deserved equaliser.

Danny Wilson was also on target as he claimed his first goal in a red shirt.

"My main emotion is one of disappointment and frustration because we were cruising at 2-0 up, but then we took our foot off the pedal and thought things were easy but football has a habit of kicking you were it hurts," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"They would have had a rollicking at half-time and they came out at us, battled and closed down space and went 3-2 up.

"The game is a physical game and you've got to compete but we just didn't do that and paid the price for it.

"To be fair to the lads though they kept going though and kept trying things and got back into the game."

McMahon also had praise for Nathan Eccleston who had a fine match and scored twice.

"It was pleasing to see him get a couple of goals," he added.

"I told Nathan before the game his work rate and effort has been fantastic in games and in training and the goals would come if he kept working hard.

"Hopefully this is the start of a spell that will see a lot of goals ahead for him."
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
            Mine angry and defrauded young?

I hardly think sarcastically referring to our team as the "reserves" is going to help us on Sunday MrsB

Tom Ince seems to be doing really well this season. I think he should go out on loan for a bit soon, see how he copes with it.

Also good to see Wilson get off the mark.

                Reserves v Blackburn?

Good idea, can't be any worse than the first team.

Important question is why was Pacheco sub? hopefully because he's involved on Thursday but knowing Roy he's still being blamed for the Northampton game.

It's interesting that the younger players haven't featured at all after that game yet Kyriakos who also played has actually started.

It's as if Roy is pinning the blame for that defeat on a bunch of 18-20 yr olds not the more experienced ones that were also involved.
Kelly should have played Sunday, that back 4 is so immobile and static it's untrue.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Watched the game last night up 'til midnight (LFC.tv). Ince and Suso were very good in the first half, Pach came on around 25 min mark and played some sweet one two football with Suso. Disappointingly Hansen had a shocker, should be out the door soon enough, and let in an easy free kick to make it 2-1 by half time.

Second half we just dozed off for the first 15 mins. Made Blackburn look as good as, well, a better Blackburn. Jack Robinson was injured yet played on, effectively leaving us with 10 men until he was subbed for Flannagan. Mavinga went to cover Robinson's position while Flannagan had an almost MOTM performance as RB. Unfortunately, we'd gone 3-2 down by that stage.

Found our composure (so we are made of strong stuff thank God) and started taking a hold of the game again. Amoo went off, another player who's time is up, to be replaced with Palsson to give us steel in the middle. Suso and Pach found their rythm again and in fairness we should have won but 3-3 is still good.

As good a player as Ince is, his decision making and ball control (not dribbling, control) needs to be much better. Will get (has been) found out at a higher level whereas conversely Suso's control is as good as Wilshere.

Looks like Suso and Pacheco are our only first team hopes in the next year or so... Hopefully we can make a neat profit on Eccleston/Amoo and some of the other guys in that team...

Evey time I've watched him play, he looks hoplelessly out of his depth!! Gulacsi - now there is a half decent keeper, there was no real need in getting Brad Jones IMO.

Agreed, was looking forward to seeing Gulacsi. Couldn't believe Hansen was in goal. Its almost as though Roy's influence in picking players is filtering down.

Its safe to say if Hansen hadn't played we'd have won yesterday. Harsh, but true.
