For me Johnson has the required talents to do the same for us on the wing.
Wouldnt hurt to try,he's no defender.
completely agree would love to see Roy shows some balls and try it, even if just for one game.

I've never liked the idea of Johnson RM but seeing as I can’t see Roy changing our back 4after two wins, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see Maxi out left and Johnson in midfield.
Once Chelsea duff us though, I'd have Johnson straight back in at RB.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

A thread that isn't about Roy or Rafa (yet....)
The game against Napoli is ideal to test the theory that he can play right midfield. I have a nagging doubt that it wont work, but thats not based on anything it particular.
Besides, however poor the performances are, you should never change a winning team just for the sake of it.

It's not 'for the sake of it' if the performances are poor though. It's because you feel you can improve on what we had on the pitch.Originally posted by elrichio86 View Post

In this I'm in two minds I find that Johnson bombing on makes more demands of other players and it hasn't looked like anyone but Lucas is likely to step up. On the other hand we need some width, and drive from deep. On balance I think he should be made to fight for his place as at least we haven't been conceding many of late."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I reckon we should kill two birds with one small thermonuclear device.
Get another top quality right wing back (subject to the new transfer policy). Doing this, Glen Johnson gets competition for his place which should hopefully make him buck his defensive ideas up. But also it would give us the option of deploying him in the right midfield position. No! I am NOT in denial!

Good point.Originally posted by Rich View PostBy all means we could try him at right midfield but I've never thought he was that skillful or someone with great game intelligence. If he going to be fairly static when the ball gets played to him then he'll struggle.
He seems to ba able to collect from Carra / Pepe and run on but can he trap/turn and beat his man..?
