In an attacking team Glen would look world class. The best attacking left full back of recent times (Roberto Carlos) was bombed out of Inter for not conforming to Roys ideas of pattern of play and sitting back.

To think things will be any better for Glen is just plain daft. He is ten times better than Marcelo who plays lb for Real Madrid and it just shows you that when an attacking full back is played properly they will not disappoint as Glen has done here.

My own personal opinion is that Glen is a full back, but in Hodgsons ****e system there is no doubting we would be much better with Glen at Rm and Kelly at Rb. This would help out both Kelly and Johnson.

Then stick Kuyt on the left (played there for Holland in the world cup) and let him help out Konchesky. Sorted.

Yep, Johnson should be playing right wing, he is great going forward but it awareness and positioning defensively are shocking. Bit like Bale being moved forward on the left for spurs

For once Hodgeson is right. Johnson is an overpaid waste of space lazy cunt. On his day he's a good player but those days are very rare. Most of the time he doesn't try and doesn't focus. Terrible signing and a complete waste of money

Although i think Johnson is a terrible defender, Roy's words were very strong. I'm sure Johnson needs a good kick up the hole as he has been shocking and is a lazy bollox, but i don't see how this public scolding a player does the club any good.

IMO either play Johnson in a more attacking role or sell him. Terrible RB for LFC no positional sense and zero defensive awareness, would love to have seen this lad turn into a world class RB, had such high hopes for the lad. But many peoples doubts over the exorbitant fee have been proven right and Johnson has been a flop whatever way you swing it.

IMO Roy's words although true were unnecessary. Obviously there could be some stuff going on behind closed doors but keep it behind closed doors FFS.

For all you know this is exactly what Johnson needs and might respond well to it plus he didn't slag anyone off he just commented (when obviously asked the question) that he is not playing to a standard he is capable of which is fairly complimentary really.

It's an odd one. I can see your point about giving GJ a kick in the arse. Not sure if when he is coming back from injury is the time to do it but perhaps he feels that with Kelly playing okay now is the time to make it look like he has a choice about who plays at right back.

I just find that Roy talks too much and too honestly. He is like the Lily Allen of football managers (without the tendency for self criticism). It's like he feels the need to broadcast every opinion he has whether that is for the good of himself or the club.

In some ways it is the fact that you know that the comments are genuinely meant that make those about his happiness at getting a point from Wigan so hard to take. Especially in conjunction with his method of trying to get that point.

If I was doing his job and on his wages I would be busting a gut for LFC. He just plods along doing the bare minimum. I think this is a very one sided view. Has Glenn's form been wildly different to the second half of last season or that he has shown for England? It is perfectly possible that Roy has seen him in training, thinks he isn't trying hard enough and is trying to shock him in to doing it.

I don't like the manager criticising players in public but that doesn't mean that it is either wrong or stupid. It all depends on the circumstances.

I just think he could have said this about almost any player this season, many have looked uninterested and uninspired at times not just GJ.
