The media are ****s, i doubt torres is fussed what idiots on SSN say.

As for the fans - they are not happy that he isnt back to his best - but they're not 'abusing' him or blaming HIM for it.

Oh and if we had actually signed a decent striker in the summer then Torres would have got a proper rest and been eased back into action slowly.

We obviously didn't sign one though.

Most of the media / pundits are thick. They believe that things are as they say they are, via an agenda being spread by guys such as Andy Gray, Jamie Redknapp, Richard Keys etc ...

Some fans listen to them and think they are right ....
        Are we winning?

it sucks he's not at the top of his game, but i still <3 him. can't see it being too different for most other folks. even if he or stevie were to leave i'd most likely still <3 them.

Torres is world class when he has that extra yard of pace. When he loses that he won't be. Michael Owen was never as good as Torres, but he is a prime example of what losing that yard of pace does.

Watching Bale for Spurs reminded me of how Torres used to burst past people. He hadn't done that yet this season. Not once.

I hope it is just a fitness/confidence issue. Even without his pace he's still a good player, but a long way off being world class.
            Forwards.......

I remember he burned past one of the Man City centre backs this season from a standing start - once mind you - just put the afteburners on and cruised past.

There's no doubt, if he does lose a yard, he won't be as imperious as previously but he is no one trick pony. Owen relied too much on his pace. Torres has pace, movement and can beat players inside the box.

A 100% fit Torres who has lost a yard of pace (if he does lose it) is still a world class player.

Torres is good enough to play without pace. It’s times like now though when he’s getting his fitness back that he’s quite frustrating and looks like he’s struggling. He’s clearly not got the acceleration at the minute, but he still plays like he does by constantly running at players and hitting the ball into space. That’s just a fitness issue I hope, but as he does get older and genuinely loses his pace he’s more than good enough to change his style and still remain a quality player.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

                    he hasnt lost a yard.

he;s short on confidence and when that happens you automatically lose overall performance because of it. When his confidence is back his electric pace will be back.

Although I think fitness might be a problem for Torres, I think the bigger problem is that he's just not getting decent service - that's why he's not putting it away. I don't think confidence has much to do with it - sharpness perhaps, but I don't see how the best striker in the world suddenly starts to think he can't 'do it' anymore.

I heard some ex-pro on the radio talking about how a run of injuries means you lose confidence in your body, rather than in your ability. You think when you should act, you get scared to try things, etc.
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

At the minute he seems to have lost about 10. But he got treatment for his hamstrings I think last year which were supposed to strengthen them at the cost of losing a bit of his pace. Can't find the article, but he admitted it himself.

That would certainly make more sense
