    Reserves v Blackpool

    Steve Hunter, 15th Nov 2010
    LiverpoolFC.tv

Liverpool Reserves take on Blackpool at the Kirkby Academy on Tuesday afternoon and you can watch the whole game live on this website from 1pm.

The match has been switched from the original venue of Prenton Park, and John McMahon is expected to field a mixture of experience and youth.

Liverpool are currently top of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North B section, two points clear of Everton and with a game in hand.

Blackpool have lost five out of the six games they have played this season so McMahon will be hoping his team can get the three points.

Kop hero David Fairclough is our guest summariser and you can only watch this game live on LFC TV Online.

I suppose you would understand, what with you pretending to be Fernando Torres and all.

As for you understanding the concept of a facade, I'm dubious. It's multi-syllabic and your Australian, so I have understandable doubts.

                        McMahon's case for the defence

                        Steve Hunter, 16th Nov 2010
                        LiverpoolFC.tv

John McMahon will have to shuffle his pack for today's game with Blackpool because of a shortage of centre-halves.

The match kicks-off at the Academy at 1pm GMT and you can watch the whole game live on LFCTV Online.

A number of senior players will be involved with the squad but it's the centre-half position that gives McMahon a selection headache.

With Danny Wilson on international duty with Scotland, Chris Mavinga and Andre Wisdom out injured, Stephen Darby on loan at Notts County, and Conor Coady away with England U18s, McMahon will have to play midfielder Steven Irwin and right-back Emmanuel Mendy at centre-back.

"Some players will have to play out of position because of injuries and international matches and we have no recognised centre-halves," McMahon told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"Mavinga has got a stress-related injury on his foot. I think that's because he has been playing a lot of football with the European Championships in the summer, and hopefully it won't be as bad as we first feared and he will be back in two or three weeks.

"Unfortunately Andre will be out for a considerable time so fingers crossed that he makes a speedy recovery. He has got a fantastic attitude and he doesn't like missing training sessions, never mind games, but he will be back.

"He would definitely have been a regular in my team this season. I also think he was making great strides to pushing for more than that, and get into the first-team squad at some point.

"Stevie Irwin will do a good job for us. He's a good lad and he will play anywhere. He has played at centre-half before so it won't be a problem for him.

"Mendy is a fantastic professional. He's got great enthusiasm, a great temperament and he will do a good job for the team."

Explaining the reason for the switch of this game from Prenton Park to the Academy, McMahon added: "Tranmere have a home game in the FA Youth Cup so we could have changed the date or change the venue and we decided to play it at our Academy.

"A lot of clubs play at their Academy now which I think is a good thing because you know the surface is good and it's good that the Barclays Premier Reserve League have allowed clubs to do that this season."

Blackpool may have lost five of the six games they have played in the league this season but McMahon will tell his team the importance of not underestimating their opponents today.

"You look at Blackpool and how well they are doing in the Premier League and they have got some talented players," he added.

"They play good football and this could be an exciting game.

"I think it's a really good league this season. There are some good teams and everyone seems to be beating everyone else."

Mendy at CB? He's barely useful as a FB. We're going to concede a few.
