LIVERPOOL were today set to agree a £3.5m switch with Wigan for Chris Kirkland.

The England international keeper has spent the past three months on loan at the JJB Stadium, but a fee is now close to being finalised.

Kirkland has been surplus to requirements at Anfield for several seasons, and Benitez will welcome the extra funds as he prepares to strengthen his squad in January.

Although the transfer cannot go through until the January 1 transfer window, all the terms are now virtually in place for Kirkland to make the move permanent.

Is 3.5 millions for surgery bills...?

The transfer fee is probably a pair of stretchers

At least we're seeing a decent return on players being sold now under Rafa, instead of letting them go for feck all...

                  Good look Kirkland

He was injury prone and even when he did play he made outstanding saves followed by elementary errors.
                  Reminded me of calamity james.

I wonder if the "anonymous" board member is happy with Rafa for getting £3,500,000 for one of Houlliers mistakes?!

Let's be honest, Kirkland couldn't save a Candy Floss when he was fit early on in Rafa's reign.

He didn't make a save until he was injured and Dudek reclaimed his spot.

He'll only ever be good at a club where he has to make 10 or so class saves game.

i can't count on one hand the amount of good games Kirkland has had for Liverpool, so in that respect I'm glad we got what we got for him.

Best of luck to the lad, tbh I thought he showed his best form at Coventry.
