Joe Cole set for Liverpool comeback against Tottenham

Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is being lined up to play in Sunday's clash at Tottenham after missing the last five matches with a hamstring injury.
"We hoped he would be back to face West Ham, but it has taken that little bit longer," manager Roy Hodgson said.
"Joe is not that far away really, so hopefully he will have recovered in time for Tottenham."

Cole has been sidelined for a month after picking up the injury in the 1-0 win at Bolton at the end of October.
The 29-year-old England midfielder was forced to sit out of the Anfield clash against his former club Chelsea, a game the Reds won 2-0.

During Cole's recuperation period, Liverpool have also beaten Napoli in the Europa League and drawn with Wigan, lost at Stoke and eased past West Ham in the Premier League.

With Liverpool edging slowly away from the relegation zone - they currently lie in ninth spot - Hodgson remained cautious about rushing Cole back to action.

"Hamstring injuries are tricky and I'm afraid we can only rely on what the sports science people tell us, and if they say he needs more time we just have to wait," he added about the player who has scored once in 13 appearances since a summer move from Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool travel to White Hart Lane on Sunday to face a buoyant Spurs, who beat Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates at the weekend to move to within three points of the top four.

Not sure i'd make the change, personally.

Maxi's been good lately and Kuyt too. Unless you move Dirk up front, but N'Gog hasnt done anything to deserve being dropped.

The only change i'd make for Spurs is Lucas back in for Poulsen and Aurelo instead of PFK.

This might as well be the Tottenham buildup thread....

        I'd go with either:

        Reina
        Johnson Carra Kyrgiakos Aurelio
        Kuyt Lucas Meireles Maxi
        N'Gog Torres

        OR

        Reina
        Kelly Carra Kyrgiakos Aurelio
        Johnson Lucas Meireles Maxi
        Kuyt Torres

        OR

        Reina
        Johnson Carra Kyrgiakos Aurelio
        Lucas Meireles
        Kuyt Cole Maxi
        Torres

Given that Joe turned Totenham down, and that he guy (Van der Vaart) has been flying that they signed instead it would be the ideal situation for Coley to put in a mega match winning performance.

I've not seen too much from him so far to suggest that he can really impose himself on a game however.
          Modifying post.

            He's not very good.

I'd play Joe Cole in behind Torres.

With all due respect, he's everything and more that you could expect from a kid who cost £1.5m.

I also changed Skrtel for Kyrgiakos

Depends how we want to play it. It's only Monday, game isnt til sunday - i'll see how the lads do in training and decide later in the week.

That's not a reason to play him!

He's clumsy, misses chances and is almost incapable of playing up front by himself. He did **** all against West Ham.

I guess we're a mid table club these days, so players like N'gog are acceptable. Shame really. We could probably get 4-5 million for him, I'd sell.

I wasnt suggesting it was reason to play him. But he's a very good prospect and he's improving. He links the play well, he's got stronger and more capable of holding it up. Good movement, decent finisher and has a knack of popping up with a goal.

                      Misses chances? Everyone does that!

Have a look at N'Gog's goals/minutes ratio. I think it'd suggest he is prolific.

Difference of opinion I guess. But 49 apps and 8 goals (according to Wiki) isn't prolific.

I don't think he'll ever play regularly for a club with Champions League football.

He'll have to do for now.

I agreed Anfieldx2. I don't really rate Wash - and whilst he does a job a £1.5m player should ... he's just not Liverpool standard.

I was talking to my mate watching the West Hame game and we were counting the injured/suspended players and counted Gerrard, Agger, Lucas and we counted Aurelio as well but we totally forgot about Joe Cole, I guess that sums up his career to date, anonymous.
                            * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

                              N'Gog this season:

                              ................Games.......Starts.......Goals
                              League.........11..............3............1
                              Overall.........19.............10............7

                              N'Gog last season:

                              ................Games........Starts.......Goals
                              League.........24.............10.............5
                              Overall.........37..............18.............8

Those stats are promising enough to make him a worthy member of the squad. He's only 21 FFS sake.
