When Agger leads the defence he is much calmer, and so is the rest of our defence as a result of this.
Possible. I think that mobility and ability on the ball is more heart of the issue. Too often the ball is lost to the opposition in dangerous places. The problem, in my view, is caused not just by Carragher coming in for Agger but also Spearing in for Lucas and Kelly in for Johnson.

Not so much Kelly IMO, I think he is fairly solid on the ball, but Spearing, Carragher and Skrtel are 3 players lying centrally and that are pretty slow on the ball. Enrique have this habit of turning in circles a bit to much, also slowing down play a bit.

Agger is immensly important to us, besides being one of the best defenders in the league, he free's up a player in midfield going forward.

I think Kelly is obviously the least problematic of those three - however I think under Dalglish/Clake Johnson has become really good at coming out with the ball (it was always a worry for me under Rafa and Hodgson). So it's not meant to be a criticism of Kelly more praise for Johnson. In some ways actually I think we might be better off with Aurelio in for Enrique for similar reasons.

For me the problem with Spearing is usually his positioning - both in terms of receiving and moving the ball on when deep and defensively.

Agreed, didn't really read it as a criticism, I just think Kelly is pretty solid on the ball :P No doubt Johnson is much better, a player I rate highly.

It's obvious that injuries have hit us hard with our best defensive players on the ball (and off) are out at the same time.

I think reading Lecter's post as well influenced how I read what you said.

The problem is the lack of cover or ability/willingness to alter our style. I think Kelly and Flanagan are more than adequate one for one cover for Johnson but while we appear to have little confidence in Coates there seems no central cover of similar type to the injured players, let alone of the requisite quality.

Agger is the best defender we have, he's absutely excellent and I love his mentality and the way he plays. Fast becoming one of my favourite players.

If he and Skrtel could both stay fit, that's CB sorted for the next 5-6 years.

And Coates looks very promising too.

The astonishing thing about Agger is how criminally underrated he is by the media and opposing fans. I'd bet if you had a poll in a national newspaper of on Talk**** etc he wouldn't make the top 20. The top 10 would be Terry,Vidic,Kompany,Ferdinand etc followed by Cahill,Jones,Jags,Lescott,Dawson,Collocini et al. Even Carra would get in ahead of him. Along with Lucas he's now the last player I'd flog TBH. Still 26 too I think.
I have one word to offer - honesty. I couldn't be devious if I tried. Joe Fagan.

If he played for the Mancs he'd be the best CB in the world.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
