Aye, I used to cringe every time I heard his name & was so very close to giving up footy completely. (I would have done if I could basically). Whatever happens this season & beyond, I am so so grateful to have the King back now- and with it our club back.
Jan Molby today paid tribute to Daniel Agger's 2011-12 form and believes his Danish compatriot is playing some of the best football of his career.
The centre-back has impressed in all three of Liverpool's Barclays Premier League matches so far this term alongside Jamie Carragher in the heart of Kenny Dalglish's defence.
Agger also starred in Denmark's 2-0 win over Norway on Tuesday to leave Molby, who attended the game in Copenhagen, glowing with praise.
"Daniel Agger is in the form of his life, and on Tuesday night he was head and shoulders above anyone else," said the Anfield legend.
"He looks fitter than ever before, and now he has that assurance he seems to be growing in confidence every week.
"If he can keep this level of fitness then I have no doubt that he will establish himself as one of the best defenders of his type in Europe.
"I've always believed that when he plays well, Liverpool play well. And he is playing well right now, that's for sure."
Agger is likely to be included in the Liverpool squad that will travel to Stoke City on Saturday as they resume Barclays Premier League duties following the international break.
Molby knows the Potters will provide Kenny Dalglish's side with a difficult challenge at the Britannia Stadium, but he's confident of a positive result for the Reds.
He said: "It will be a tough examination, and one which may tell us a lot about this Liverpool team, but I believe this side is much better equipped to deal with the threat of Stoke.
"We all know what kind of threat that is. Stoke will use the throws of Rory Delap, the physicality of Kenwyne Jones and the height of Peter Crouch. They will get the ball wide and look to put Liverpool under pressure.
"Kenny will be relieved to have options in his defence with Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates competing for places with Jamie Carragher and Daniel Agger."
He added: "A lot of teams go to Stoke and look simply to stop them from playing. That suits them. What doesn't suit them is for teams to attack them, to use pace and movement and to put them on the back foot.
"They have added a bit of pace with the signing of Jonathan Woodgate, but they are still susceptible to the movement of the likes of Luis Suarez and Stewart Downing.
"They have centre-backs playing as full-backs, and they can be got at. If Liverpool are smart, they will get their chances and will have their moments, I'm sure."
Yeah. Each time I see Brian using the word 'trending' I want to hear the news that someone has injured him.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
Sorry Gooner man you need to be a bit more gracious. In terms of defences you might wish to consider the folowing stats. I haven't bothered with this year however it doesn't make much difference:
2010/2011 Arsenal conceded one goal less than us despite being 10 points better off and us having half a season of the Bodge.
2009/2010 Arsenal conceded 6 goals more than us despite being 12 points better off
2008/2009 Arsenal conceded 10 goals more than us
2007/2008 Arsenal conceded 4 more goals than us despite being 7 points better off
Interesting stuff. Though I've got another stat for you.
Our defence last conceded 8 goals in.... 1954.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
This was the last Agger post I could find - apologies if there is a more recent one!
Agger has been absolutely fantastic this season. Along with Kompany, he's been the best centre back in the league by some distance. What a pairing those two would make! I do think that Liverpool fans aside, he's very under-rated.
Lovely to see him get a run of games under his belt. Long may it continue!
He's been excellent this season but for me I think Skrtel has probably edged it, really come on leaps and bounds since Kenny took over and the partnership between the two is superb.
