He plays less than half our games each year and for 25m I would sell.

We could look at someone like matts hummels who is young and very good. even though I am for a clear out of experienced players like maxi kuyt aurelio bellamy and even agger and skrtel I still am worried about the talent thats left us. Maxi bellamy kuyt are all international players and agger and skrtel are top draw centre halves.

I wish liverpool had a committee made up of people like ian rush phil thompson alan hansen robbie fower and john barnes who are all football men and ex players who could advise fsg on footballing matters. If rodgers doesnt like it tough ahit because only a fool would hand over the keys to the kingdom to a guy who has just one years premiership experience.

But we won't sign Mats Hummels, will we.

This is a real worry. I am really concerned that the costs of 3 x managerial change are biting now.

Wilson can make it? Kelly can start CB? Wisdom or Sama can make the step up?

The other worry here is that Skrtel looks so much better and assured with Agger next to him.
I was talking more generally, mainly in relation to the loss of maxi, kuyt and possibly Bellamy. I clearly said Agger would need replacing.

Not a hope in the world of landing hummels, pipe dream mate.

Fact being Agger is one of the best CB's in the world, that's the most important detail to remember.

I'm pretty sure we'll see a player like an Affellay or similar come in before the window closes.

If he goes we won't replace him with equal quality, or with a player who is as good on the ball. It doesn't mean that in the long run we won't end up with a better defence.

Would still be gutted and my feeling is that losing any of our key personnel means writing the season off to rebuilding. It won't, however, be the end of the world. In fact in a few seasons time we might well look back on this period as the start of the rebirth. Much as Newcastle do to their post-relegation period.

Maxi, Kuyt, Aurelio and Aquilani didn't contribute much if anything last year, and Bellamy can't handle playing that many games. All of them are covered by Borini, Cole and Pacheco returning, and a couple of youth players being promoted. Doesn't make us stronger, however Rodgers has obviously been brought in to execute a long term view and we still have a decent squad as it is.

I actually quite like the idea of not going out just to bring in bodies, we've made enough bad transfer mistakes over the last few years doing that, but actually using what we have, giving some youth players a chance, saving some money then targetting players who can really improve the system over the next couple of years. Its not ideal but it is doable without disaster.

Some positive thinking from the above (apart from Neil's pisstaking of course!)

It's a difficult one this. I can't see us keeping Agger but we'll be ok I reckon, we'll get someone else in no doubt and we'll build and re-build just as we've always done.

Remeber when we were ****e and we brought in Sami and Hennchoz? It will happen again we'll pluck some talent out from somewhere I'm positive of that.

Skrtel is still a very good player, Coates I believe will become a cracking player too in time.

Yes Vertongen went for about 9m

A player that we can possibly get for 9-10m is Kyriakos Papadopoulos from Schalke.

Only 20 years old and big, big talent.

Already very good player and will only get better.

Another one we should probably look at, if we have to, is Mamadou Sakho from PSG who is not held in high regards by Ancelotti.

Only 22 years old and still a very good prospect.

Also Dejan Lovren. We were linked with him before but it seems Barca is interested in his services.

That said, one name circulating around for last little while, as possible replacement for Agger is Amorebieta.

Decent player but he is already 27 and we can and should do much, much better.
You've talked about this lad for a long time and you seem to have a good knowledge of the European game Mostar so I'll take your word for it that he's a good player.

Does he have the potential to be quality this lad?

Don't think people are interested in him simply because he's Greek you know. I'm going to be honest and say that apart from the Euro's I've rarely seen him play.

Good call but there is no chance we would get him nor he would want to come.

Also Borussia would want more in excess of what we would get for Agger.

Maybe that's the plan though, the owners vision.

Sell Agger for 18 - 20 mill and fork out the extra what's necessary for someone younger who's just as talented.

No one knows what or how the owners are thinking about potential targets and improvement for the team.

We've all seen that they're prepared to spend as they did on Carroll, admittedly they made a mistake but perhaps it's one they've learned from.

I'm not giving up on the owners just yet.

Not best player, but he's been absolutely key to us playing well over the last few years

I know I think people are getting a bit carried away here.

He is a very very good footballer but he is replaceable, we will find someone else just as talented to come in and it won't be Ashley Williams either.

Not our best player, but I'd say that he's in our top three most important players.

I said nothing about owners but I seriously doubt our plan is to disrupt perfect balance at back to sell and then buy a new CB for more money than what we earned from the sale especially as we are still missing AM, CM, wide player and one more striker.

What are you talking about? The owners aren't deciding which players should be shipped out/shipped in - it's the Manager. You need to go and watch Rodger's introductory press conference and note how his tone turned serious when he revealed that he would not work under a DoF and that he had to be in sole control, thus causing FSG to drop their favoured 'continental structure'.

I know you didn't mention anything about the owners I just mentioned that as it's how I'm thinking - apologies for that.

I was just think perhaps they feel they can cash in on Agger and invest in someone younger of decent quality perhaps?

I hope we don't sell him but I'm confident of bringing someone talented in to replace him or bring Coates in.
