Seems to me that the owners are basically saying there's x amount of cash available which is less than the amount Rodgers thinks he needs. Therefore our Bren (too soon?) is looking to raise cash.

No one wants Carroll at a price we can stomach, evidently Adam and Cole wont being in any cash, so the one player which is attracting serious attention is Agger.

Hence the merry dance we're in.

Personally, if I was FSG, you have to back your new manager with non-club generated cash this summer, let him bring in the 3 or 4 faces he has identified. Take the hit. And then if needs must revert to a spend what you earn model next season.

      Cant argue with that, Lee.

Without meaning to sound all Championship Manager (or whatever it is), are you telling me that we can't raise £20m-odd by selling Downing, Adam and Spearing? You would hardly notice them three gone.

But to sell one of your best players - one who should be integral to the team - not having it.
You would though, you can't sell three to get one. But sell Agger at the right price and you could get two players in. I don't want us to sell Agger but if we do I fully expect the money to be spent on new players.

The owners should never of sacked Kenny and hired Rodgers if they weren't going to back him. At the very least, they should have bought players with the understanding they would sell players later so as not to make it so obvious that we have to sell in order to buy. It just makes it even harder to get teams to meet their asking price.

                  Disagree.

I really hate getting into all this Football Manager stuff, but we wouldn't notice Spearing leaving if he walked now. We've got Allen coming in, Lucas back, Shelvey improving and even Henderson to cover the absence of Adam.

Might need to replace Downing however I don't think Cole or one of the kids could contribute as little as he did last year.

Sunderland or Villa would probably fork out £10-12m for Downing.
£5m for Adam should be doable and a couple of quid for Spearing.

Surely that makes a lot more sense than flogging one of your better players for £20-27m.

Just my opinion though and I realise it's not as simple as that. But it's hardly a wild suggestion.

Obviously shifting three players is more difficult than flogging one but yeah I completely agree. No brainer in my view.

But one of those players we have to bring in would be a CB to replace the best on we have. The one we brought in wouldn't be as good as Agger do arguably we will actually be weaker as a result.

                        Oh yeah, definitely.

I'm just trying to say that if we need to raise a couple of bob to sign a few players, then there's much more sensible ways than selling one of our best players.

I'm just wording it really badly.

before the game last night i would have said we are miles away from fourth and should sell agger and skrtel. But after last night game and the way we bossed it (albeit against inferior opposition) leads me to believe that with another couple of quality additions we will be there or there abouts.

If we keep our best players fit and they become more comfortable in the system we could do it. If we're nowhere near ready to challenge then its not a bad idea to sell and bring in younger lads looking past the next two seasons but I think we could do it.

Even enrique looked very good last night and probably played as well as ive ever seen him play for us. Its positive stuff.

Shifting Cole, Downing,Adam and Spearing would save some serious wages even if we did have to subsidise some.

this might just be posturing from the manager. he might be using some leverage against the owners.
he is saying i need more money to build the team. he is saying to the owners, "do you really want me to tell everyone that you want to sell agger" cos he knows the owners will probably find the grief over this hard to swallow and have to bung brandan a few quid.

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I like to think I am optimistic, but that is a whole new level.

Can we find some middle ground please?
