Our philosophy

I think the first questions are what scope we want our philosophy to have and do we feel we need a single figurehead (such as Cruyff at Barcelona) to define and expound it.
The problems for replicating a root to branch approach similar to that employed at Barcelona are manifold. Firstly changes at youth level take a long time to work their way through - in Spain arguably 20 years or more, at Arsenal at least 10 years went by before Wenger started generating the likes of Wilshere and notable underage teams himself.
We will have to make hard decisions about giving youth a chance against maximising chances of winning.
Personally I think we do need someone with a vision and the drive to see it through. The vision, obviously, has to be about producing winning football. I'm not sure there is one brand that satisfies this criteria but the reactive, standing in three neat lines approach of Roy is certainly not what is required.
Appointing Comolli is an interesting and odd step at this point. If the idea is that he does fit well with Roy then we are ****ed and might as well right the next few years of completely."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Haha everything on here turns into a Rafa debate its comical but i suppose he's part of our footballing history so kinda of relevant this time.Originally posted by banditos View PostHis achievements at Valencia and LFC up til last season suggest otherwise. Stop watching Sky mate.
Rafa did a fantastic job at Valencia with Hector Cupers team, that is a fact mate. Rafa came into a team that had been in the Champs League final 2 years running, losing the second final only on penos.
This is from RAFA'S OWN WIKI PAGE:
He inherited from Cuper a team brimming with potential - with Santiago Cañizares, Roberto Ayala, Rubén Baraja, David Albelda, Vicente and Pablo Aimar providing the backbone to a formidable side that had reached back-to-back UEFA Champions League finals in 2000 and 2001, losing only on penalties in 2001 to Bayern Munich.
But to be fair to Rafa he came in and turned them into winners, "nobody will object to that". But enough of this "Stop watching sky" bull****. The funny thing is that some people are saying Rafa should have bought new players into Mourinho's triple winning side, Rafa came to Valencia inheriting one of the strongest squad in world football at that time, and he bought dun dun dun Mista and Rufete and that in his first season and they did nothing until the following season. So Rafa won the league in his first season there with Cuper's team, that is fact and not Sky fed bull ****.
Credit where credit is due for what Rafa achieved in his time at Valencia, nobody is denying his success, but you cannot be blinded to the facts and the squad he inherited.

**** me you are ignorant. It wasn't Cuper's team, it was bought by the director football, not the manager, that is how European football works in the most part.Originally posted by danperkins View PostHaha everything on here turns into a Rafa debate its comical.

Did i say Cuper bought them? Eh yeah, but Hector was the manager, a manager manages the players under him and therefore it was Hector Cupers team.
Well done Matty, unlucky.

Yes, but that doesn't stop it being an ignorant argument. I see no one gives credit to the director of football, it is to do with the manager who gets them to be successful and that is one who deserves the credit in that scenario. It is idiotic to Cuper credit for Rafa's title, it is a cheap dig by DFP.Originally posted by red g View Postregardless Matt rhe point still stands. Wrong. It was Valencia's team, it ceased to be Cuper's when he left. He never built it, he never bought it.Originally posted by danperkins View Post
