Only twice since Kennys last season have I actually thought we could win the title. Once under Evans and once under Rafa.

You only really see how well Rafa did when you see how badly the LMA manager of the year does with his squad

So by your argument, Cuper had nothing got to do with building a successful team at Valencia? You and i will never know if he had any say in "transfers", regardless of what the general way football is run over in Spain.

I've had this exact argument before, people say building is buying? So that means Guardiola hasn't built **** all at Barca? Definitions may differ. My definition in football of building a squad, is getting the team to play the way you want it and building a continuity and unity in that team.

So you focus on the word "built", you can mull over that, and i'll go back to the main point which was "Rafa inherited a world class team". Did he inherit it from Cuper who was the previous manager and managed to get the 2 consecutive champs league "Or" did he inherit the squad from the director of football? Our opinions may differ on that point, but Rafa still inherited a world class team. That is a fact whatever way you want to try spin the details.

P.S. Lets get back to the thread

You have no clue do you.

      Well done.

Why do you think the prospective club presidents make make election promises about players? Believe me, it isn't on the managers say so.

can we get back to philosophy

we dont need to mention Rafa plenty of threads for that, plenty of threads about bodgeson too.

also we all know dan has his own way of looking at things that usually dont involve fact or the normal way of looking at things but we were having a nice discussion at one point

just to add something said by some of us two pages ago, a great manager does not inherit someones team they remould a team in the club to play in their style, so in simple terms it is not who bought them it is what you can do with them!

ok sorry to interupt the mindless , tedious point scoring over Rafa, Roy and now Cupar, shall i throw into the pot Jose and Raineiri as well
          Henderson, Downing, Adam, ?

As for a playing philosophy, Liverpool became great through controlling games, keeping the ball, being patient with it. waiting to take a chance when it came along and if need be, grinding a result out.

The philosophy can be summed up in 6 words from Bob Paisley

"Get it, keep it, win it"
Bob Paisley - "This club has been my life. I'd go out and sweep the street and be proud to do it for Liverpool if they asked me to."

                That is the Liverpool way.

It is not about Rafa. If we want our own philosophy then we must get in a manager that did the same as Rafa. Respect the fans 100%. Respect the Liverpool way and is an excellent manager.

Rafa is one of very few candidates out there. That is why I mention him very often.

I love Liverpool FC and I want what is best long term for the club. Rafa is IMO what is best long term. It may exist other managers that would be better short term like Rijkaard etc but would he stay 10+ years and build a legacy? No chance.

We need to get in a manager that is prepared to stay the next 10+ years and build up the club and leave a legacy behind him.

Would Rafa be prepared to stay 10+ years? I think the answer is yes.
Hes gone, his time has gone, hes not coming back time to move on

There are plenty of managers I would go for before going back to Rafa

To me more than anything the club needs to be united once again bringing Rafa back would still fracture elements of the fan base

Bring in someone the whole support can get behind

                  I tend to agree.

The dream team of Sausage and Bender commands over 91% support.
                  .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

however if you want 100% support you need bodgeson in there too
