I think he is trying to cover himself for his shameful early evaluations of players. While I think he is a weak manager I don't think he has been helped by those around him or who surround the club.

these comments seem really naive and stupid from a manager who should know better. at the moment the fans have turned against him and the only way to reverse that is by getting results. we dont need to hear all that against purslow even though he had his faults especially since he had a big hand in appointing him.

I'm still not getting the whole hate purslow thing. The players he listed I'd have zero issue with them all leaving. Some are looking better then they should because a few of our best players are gone. When Alonso and Mascherano were both here Lucas looked poor most of the time. The others theres no point even bothering. I'd keep Kyrgiakos since he's the only defender we have who is good in the air, aside from Agger who is always broken sadly. Getting rid of those players would be a smart move and I dont see how calling that a bad idea just because Purslow said it is fair.

I also doubt Purslow walked up to the board and said HODGSON without any input from Gerrard and Carragher and no way for others to counter his decision. Our manager selection was a group effort, not 1 man choice.

Lucas started 41 games last season. Wouldnt call that bench material. He really isnt that good. And I'm not sure what the foreign line was for. The foreigners are better players then the english to be fair. Its not just **** tactics thats giving the team a bad run this season. Its also the players being used. Last season Lucas played 41 games, we came 7th. Season before something like 14 I think, we were higher.

I'm not saying Lucas is our problem, far from it. I'm saying if you use more substandard players then you should expect that level of performance you're getting now.

I think that is a bit of a narrow view, the problems last season came from us not scoring enough, not through having a poor defence. Gerrard was poor last season, Torres and Aquilani spent half the season injured and we struggled through that a lot. Lucas was one our of better players last season (despite some of the ridiculous claims made) and has continued to improve a lot this season including 3 assists this season, only Torres has more.
