I know he is only 28 but he seems to be collecting injuries and we have Torres, Gerrard and Cole to fulfill the need for pre-match write-ups that feature more doctors notes than tactical discussion.

I honestly think Torres and Alonso were genuinely ambitious signings in the sense that they were much talked of in the lists of players the big teams were after and cost significant chunks of our transfer budget to acquire.

Not sure that now is the time to give a **** about the willy waving requirement for a marquee signing. We need the right two, three or four players to gel the side and get a positive feeling around us (also probably a new manager to lead them). In the end the top players follow a combination of success and cash. With the league as open as it is a bit of consistency might be all we need to get back to the CL and we should focus on that short term whilst looking at the development and managerial part of the club for the long run.
Willie Waving is the last thing we need. He's probably a good player in the SPL but not good enough for us.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

We're a mid-table club still pretending to be a top club, and signing Kaka would certainly fit in with that.

Unless we are playing in the champions league and competing for the league in some way, there is no hope of us rivaling the worlds best clubs for the world best players. The best players want to play at the highest level and win trophies, we are so far away from both.

I think some people are really running away with the 'We are LFC" tag, that doesn't float anymore, when the LFC of today are an average run of the mill side.

Its hard to admit and its a severe kick in the balls as we were doing so well in recent years but it is what it is. The first step to recovery is to remove Hodgson, i can't see us signing top names but in January IMO signing a few good/decent players that will improve us is a more realistic approach than us dreaming of competing for the big boys. Then hopefully please god we have a good league finish and in the summer time we look a much more attractive club to perspective suitors and we can spend some serious cash.

                Exactly right.

I do believe that we will remove Hodgson in January though. The owners will want to add players to the squad to help us move up the table and protect their investment, but I don't see them being happy to hand that money over to Roy if they don't see him as being the LFC manager for the 2011/2012 season, and who does?

Anyway, screw the hollywood player signing, the biggest priority is to assign a genuine world class manager, everything else will then just fall into place.

Very valid point and i reallu hope this happens mate

Have to say if Roy does get the boot at some stage, there will be unbelievable pressure on the owners to replace him with a genuine top man. Lets hope all these things happen sooner rather than later as good only knows what state we'll be in if Roy continues on in the new year.

We are one of the biggest clubs on the planet. The only thing we need is someone that know how to use that in the right way. Then there is every chance that we will start to win trophies again.

                      Everything else is in place.

Money and ambition that is what we lacked a long time. NESV have said that they want to be the best. That is the right ambition. If they also back that up with money then will soon be back winning trophies again.

Its just like Krasic going to Juve. Even though they had a **** season similar to ours, the club was looking on the way up and he went there. Same with Aquilani agreeing to go there.

arggghh. we brought in comolli, and will bring in a ceo because nesv's idea is that no one person will be in charge of who stays and who goes. it's checks and balances. sometimes you get a republican house or a hodgson involved, and it's not ideal, but at least he won't single-handedly **** up our transfers.

he will, however, single-handedly **** them up when they arrive. and really basically everything else on the senior footballing side of things.

That's the thing, it wouldn't take much to bring us back up the top, a hand full of decent signings and a bit of cash thrown about, a decent manager and we're good to take on the top 3 after at least a season.

Liverpool is bigger than Roy and always will be.
