The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

So we did not appeal the gerrard decision?

It was pretty clear cut I thought. Entirely the right decision was reached. Don't see any benifit in appealing.

I thought that the appeal delays the ban by a week? So he could play in the derby. And if the appeal is not considered 'frivolous' (which it need not be, given Rafael got away with a similar foul scot-free, without even a freekick, just seconds before) the ban wouldnt be extended either.

Then he would be banned for the following

                      22 Jan 2011 Wolves A 12:45
                      26 Jan 2011 Fulham H 20:00
                      February 2011
                      2 Feb 2011 Stoke City

                      instead of as already discussed

                      12 Jan 2011 Blackpool A 20:00
                      16 Jan 2011 Everton H 14:05
                      22 Jan 2011 Wolves A 12:45

                      and be back for

                      6 Feb 2011 Chelsea A 16:00
                      RIP IRWT post/rant, best ever

According to my memory (and wiki agrees) that has changed and all appeals are now heard before the next scheduled match. I'm also pretty sure that the timing even if it were allowed would be likely to lead to it being interpreted as 'frivolous'.

Ah, if it's changed then that's another story.

I notice that Tiote of Newcastle appealed his red card vs Stevenage and the appeal was rejected - but his ban remained at 3 games.

Whether they would have considered OUR appeal as frivolous, we could only guess. Perhaps.

I think the fact that he got 3 matches is harsh - I've seen far worse tackles that weren't even given red cards. I think 1 match would be more than fair imo...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!
