I think he can develop into a very useful squad member for a top 3 team first and then push on from there developing his own identity. He has the potential to be a very very good premiership midfielder - a better and homegrown version of Gareth Barry or Carrick.

Far too early to judge the kid. Lets give him a few seasons then we can give a proper view on him.

Maybe send him out on loan at some stage, if it suits all parties.

I don't think he's that slow. He just looks a bit clumsy when he runs.
          Forwards.......

Besides even if he is, it's not a big deal if he can compensate for his lack of pace with being good at most/if not all other aspects of his game.

Look at other top midfield players over the years - Lampard, Scholes, Ballack, Alonso - all top quality centre midfielders and very little pace amongst them.

Not comparing Shelvey to them but just because you don't have pace, it's not the end of the world - provided you're good at the other things.

I think he's a real talent, can't wait for him to have more time on the pitch.
It's a prediction thread on a wish list.

It's not just pace - he struggles getting around the pitch IMO. Lampard, Scholes etc, although slow, get up and down no problem.

But as others have said, he's in the infancy of his career so this pointless waffle is a bit, er, pointless.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

I said similar in my post above. However, when my Sky plus recording ended last night, it went to the LFC channel and the last 30 minutes of the match was on. I wasn’t really paying attention as I was on the laptop but to be fair to Jonjo, he did actually get about a lot more than I initially gave him credit for.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

he's only been here a few months and he's playing more than I suspect he hoped, let him carry on as he is for a while yet before sending him back to play at a lower level, he needs this experience at the top level

Fair does fella, maybe he's just not up to it in terms of fitness at the age of 18.

I remember Lampard was a chubby little ****er when he first broke through at West Ham he was just sniffing about the opponents box and did **** all tracking back or **** - fair play to him he got himself sorted and ever since he joined Chelsea, he's apparently one of the fittest players for them and England too.

Let's not forget too that Gerrard while always an athlete struggled with his fitness at that age as his body was still developing.

Shelvey might not have finished growing!

You can work to improve pretty much any attribute in a footballer. But I don't think you gain pace. You can only work on the technique to make you run better
