Top post mateOriginally posted by calvoboy View PostI've said it before and I'll say it again - please everyone try to take a clear headed rational view about what's happening at the club. It's far better than the tiresome scapegoating, player and manager hating rants that are becoming the norm on here.
Anyone who can't see the improvement in the way we are playing, in terms of our tactical approach, and level of ambition, in the last couple of games under Kenny really doesn't deserve to call themselves a football fan. In both games our tactics have been transformed. We are playing a much higher defensive line, trying to play football in their half, and are pressing all over the pitch. As a result, we are starting to control games (in patches) again, whereas under Hodgson we were negative and reactive. I'd much rather lose while playing like we did tonight than as we did at home against Wolves.
But, any transformation takes time (as I argued for longer than most under Hodgson). Kenny needs time for the players to start playing the way he wants them to. This might take 5-6 weeks to really start taking shape given the regularity of our fixtures over the next couple of months, and lack of training time in-between. But he needs that time to get his ideas across and surely everyone should recognise this and give a bit of leeway? Does anyone really think we'd be getting better results under Hodgson? To me, there are already signs of a long-term structure being put in place, with shrewd backroom staff appointments, a style of play similar to the academy allowing for greater continuity, and rumours of investment in good young players.
This knee-jerk judgement of players, managers, and even owners recently by a section of our fans does no-one any good. A club needs everyone pulling in the same direction in order to be successful - and that includes owners, directors, manager, coaching staff, players and fans. Hicks and Gillett are 90% to blame for our problems in my opinion, for lack of investment in the squad, and undermining of much of the staff, but lets try and keep our end up as fans at least by giving time and encouragement before slating players and the manager?
And with that I'll head back into my semi-retirement from the site.
Modifying post.

Yes we were far more open but lets face it we've looked like that for months but its been masked over by sitting on our own 18 yard boxOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostI know it's ridiculously early days but I couldn't believe how open we were last night. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

Im feeling good about the derby.
Hopefully we'll have Aurelio, Maxi and maybe Ngog back in the team or Babel. We lacked quality last night but the passion and fight is coming back to them. We need a solid home game now and the derby is the perfect occasion. Im looking forward to it

think last night showed that the depth in squad isn't there - no real shock to any of us I'd imagine.
KK has had maybe 1 full day training with the squad since he took back over most rested on Monday training tuesday then the match last night, not a great deal of time to make the changes we desperately need.
I think he'll get us going this weekend against the bitters, I mean last night probably showed him at least those players that are not up to it - Jova leaps out at me here.
Lots of work to do, getting the confidence back and changing the mindset from the woeful tactics we've employed this season, still fully confident he'll set us straight

Which is exactly why most top clubs and international sides - and Rafa's teams - play two defensive midfielders. Any flat midfield four will inevitably be exposed regularly and put pressure on the back lineOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostI know it's ridiculously early days but I couldn't believe how open we were last night. The fact that we dont have a dedicated specialised half decent holding player could also be a problemOriginally posted by Redspin View PostWhich is exactly why most top clubs and international sides - and Rafa's teams - play two defensive midfielders. - well i've calmed down slightly after last night - having a fe beers didn't help
I still don't think i was too kneejerk - we were ****ing dreadful - i accept that, it's going to take a bit of time to turn things round - and i am still pleased we got rid of the hodge, and kenny is in -
I am hoping that maybe the issue last night is, to be fair it looked like we tried to play football....the problem being we didn't have enough footballers on the pitch
Our technique is poor - we seem unable to string together 10x passes of between 5yds and 10yds in a row.
A typical piece of liverpool possession this year
It's starts with say agger, good footballer, nice easy pass to lucas, who first touch won't be great, he'll then play a pass a yard behind meireles who streches to control, he's now under pressure and will pass it back to johnson - he'll try and steam forward but got nowhere to go, so passes it to kuyt - kuyts first touch is abysmal, so bad he's got two men up his arse, he plays a dreadful pass back to anyone and they now either just go long with a hopeful ball to torres or we just give it a way.
I'm not asking for barcelona esque super football – but come on lads, keep the ball, don’t panic, get ur first touch in, when passing to a team mate make it as easy as you can.....basics of football – something that due to either lack of confidence or lack of ability we just can’t manage.
We have (on paper at least
) 5 footballers in the squad imo which is nowhere near enough – agger aurelio gerrard cole and torres, and we have question marks over fitness with all of them!! – maxi and meireles (at a push lucas) aren’t bad, tidy enough and for now can do a job – and you can add carragher in as every team needs someone with his character and fight – Kelly/shelvey/ngog are excused because they are young kids coming through – oh obv reina excused too because he’s a superstar
The rest though – look clueless footballers, either lacking brains, pace, technique, no threat, no guile, no fight, not strong, can’t head it, or in dirk kuyts case....all of that
When we hang the capitalists they will sell us the rope we use.
