so who gets the credit for wanting to sign him - is he a Benitez target that got completed way after he'd left or did that guy that I've blocked from my memory set the wheels in motion or is he Kenny's (or someone else's)?

IIRC Kenny said he had watched him in previously as a scout - could have been any time since Rafa bought him back to the club. You have to think he had a fair say in the matter though.

I saw a bit of giggling from Kenny and a few on our bench when he was coming off, Meireles couldn't keep it in. I might be a bit cynical in my thoughts on this but i think he mightn't be that injured at all. I'd be surprised of him pulling out of an international match but Uruguay are only playing a friendly in Estonia on Friday.

I hope you're right. Can't see why we wouldn't want him to get the match fitness though. He's only played 6 games for us and none for Ajax since November.

I'd go for around 40.

My honest guess would be around the 30 mark.. That is based on what we have at the moment, with the right buys, who knows.

Risk mitigation. Training wouldn't be far of a friendly international, they are painful. Carroll being called up for a full international is a different proposition. Just a hopeful bit of thinking by me.

I sincerely doubt that Kenny would risk upsetting the Uruguayan FA when we have relatively little to play for and Suarez has played so little football. Even more so, I doubt Suarez would play along.

He has been withdrawn from the Uruguay squad and the club is hopefull he will be fit to play against bodgsons baggies
