I also thought his was supposed to be a rags to riches story too and he had nothing growing up.
I must admit the same thought crossed my mind when reading that article. I guess the standards of living in Uruguay are much higher than I imagined.

It wasn't just an assumption because he was from Uruguay, I'm pretty sure I actually read an article on him saying that he was poor growing up and football was the only chance for him and his family etc. Might have just been lazy journalism or perhaps I got my wires crossed.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

fifa definitely had premier league but some if not all made up names.

his brother had probably turned pro by then so maybe he bought him it?

            found this.......

Now a millionaire, Luis Suarez will never forget where he came from.

"I had a really hard time growing up," Suarez told Liverpool Echo, adding that he had to turn down an invite to a soccer camp because he couldn't afford a pair of shoes, after spending money on a playstation "As you can imagine coming from a large family, we did not have many resources at home, which meant we had to carry on with a very normal life, full of sacrifices."

Suarez detailed his incredible soccer journey that took him from poverty to riches at a very young age.

"I always had clear in my mind that I was not going to give up and that I would soon enough have an opportunity to prove myself," he told Liverpool Echo. "I kept on fighting and working hard."

The story helps explain, at least in part, why Suarez doesn't sweat the small stuff.

"When I look at my past," he said, "I think about all my friends growing up, all the dirt fields and streets of Montevideo that I had played on, but I can't help but to feel very proud of what I have achieved."

i had fifa 96. i played as liverpool as well. i remember all those people. in fact i remember in fifa...95 was it? that i often had to sub a player to bring on fowler from the start, because he was defaulted on the bench. i think it was usually ian rush, too. used to score lobbed goals from damn near halfway on the snes with fowler

                            Maxi got a big head.

                            edit: on his shoulders.

Nice to see them all getting on, would like to think the english players interact with the foreign ones in a similar way.

It is great to see that Suarez has a good support by his teammates especially as he is still not fluent in english.
