    Alan Hansen

nteresting article on Kenny's training methods from Big Alan Hansen

Alan Hansen has lifted the lid on the training methods which may be responsible for Liverpool's resurgence.

The Reds rose to seventh in the Barclays Premier League this week following victories over Wolves and Fulham.

Fans have noted a greater willingness to commit men into opposition territory under temporary gaffer Kenny Dalglish.

The attractive football Dalglish likes his sides to play manifested itself in a 31-pass move which culminated in Fernando Torres's ninth strike of the season in the dying moments at Molineux last weekend.

The last few games have prompted Hansen to recall his own days playing under our greatest ever No.7.

"As soon as Kenny went in there he wanted his Liverpool team to move better," the former centre-back told LFC Weekly magazine.

"He told Steve Clarke what he wants to see and that's a return to the traditional pass and move Liverpool values.

"We used to do this function at Liverpool, one of the few training functions we ever did, where the man in possession had to move after passing the ball.

"If he didn't move a foul was awarded and the team he was playing for lost possession.

"You wouldn't believe how many times players got caught out for not moving, but it became a natural thing for us to do after passing the ball.

"It was drilled into us that when a man is in possession, if people are moving then it is easier for him to play a pass. That is exactly what has been missing from Liverpool, especially away from home, and it's what Kenny is trying to restore."

One player who is crucial to the implementation of Dalglish's ideas is Portugal international midfielder Raul Meireles, according to Hansen.

"At Wolves, Meireles in particular showed what a class player he is," said the 55-year-old.

"I've always said that if Liverpool can get some impetus and momentum we will see the true value of Meireles because he really is a good player who has needed a bit of time to adjust.

"His passing, movement and attacking play at Wolves were excellent and Torres benefitted from him, Kuyt and Rodriguez being given the freedom to go and play."

'tis true. Grown tired of screaming at the telly when one of our players passes and then doesn't offer an opportunity for an easy return.

We are Liverpool. Pass and move.

      Interesting.

There were a couple of nice passages last night with Lucus playing one-2's and getting a shooting chance for Dirk. And as Hansen said last night KD is going to love Suarez, he didn't stop running whilst he was on the pitch.

So far Dalglish is making it impossible for NESV to think of anyone else in the summer, he has transformed the club in the space of 4 weeks.

One thing Ive noticed since Kenny came back is after we shoot now, its followed up. Before, it was a shot and then everyone running back to there positions. Were becoming more of a battering ram than under Bodger

Long may the resurgence continue! If it continues then he will get the job on merit rather than nostalgia and the easy choice to keep fans onside.

Some of the movement in the last few games has been incredible. There was one in the first half last night - about 6 passes, all first touch, which ripped a massive hole in the Stoke defence.

We are starting to become very watchable, and winning! In 3 or 4 weeks Kenny has put his imprint all over this side.

Looking very bright for the future. Young players like Suso will find it easier to fit into this team given the style of football we are playing and it really does feel like the true Liverpool way is coming back.

I've noticed that too but how much do you think this is it a mentailty thing and how much due to i) us having more men around the box making it more likely for something to drop to them and ii) To**es not being arsed?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

How much do you want to see Pachecho in there? I wish we had a cup game coming up we could try see him play using our new tactics.

**** me am I excited about this. It's one of the reasons Germany went so far. They never stop running and giving the man in possession options while moving the game forward.

Very rarely do they dwell on the ball or move the ball backwards.

Spain are more patient but again they are always moving and waiting for the gap.

I'm seriously considering buying a Liverpool shirt next season.

That would have been a great goal.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think alot is down to the change in manager. Hodgeson is very regimented with players getting back into position. Keeping the shape. But this team now seems more free and flowing. Maybe partly due to the change in mentality. But yea, I do agree with your points. Dont think the Torres matters though.

It wasn't as if Hodgson came in and killed the team's moral. He took over a stale and stagnated side, didn't know what to do and ended up making the situation worse by trying.

I really hope Kenny will give Pacheco a chance. One of the players I think could really benefit in the new system we are trying to implement.

whilst i agree to a point, the problems started before bodge came in but his methods were never going to work with our players and expectations.

this made his job harder than it could have been but look at how kenny has changed things in a matter of weeks

We've used this a lot under Roy Evans before and Sammy Lee was a coach there as well. It's simple training; man with the ball must pass to someone then move, or it's an infringement and possession was given to the opponent.

I used to do this when I was young when I was training for my school team; it's fantastically enjoyable. Our coach was a Liverpool fan.
                              Are we winning?
