Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Looks like you accidentally fulfilled the knobsvile criteria on this occasion.

It was a great win, with some excellent performances, but I hope we get shot of this formation; it simply hands too much initiative to the better teams. A back four holding a high line to condense the play is a much better option over the long term.

The better teams? Better than the one that won the double last season?
                Oh I don't know.

The team we beat last night won the double last season. Do they not count as a 'better' team?

They did not show any initiative against the system we played.

Their best efforts came from inidividual mistakes.

Carra don't have Agger's passing game so it will be more hoofs in pressured situations.

Carra is an out and out defensive defender. Very good at that but very average attacking.

The question is if we can afford to have one central defender that is only there to defend? Will that affect our attacking play to much? Do it cost us to many counter attacks to play with a defender like Carra?

That Standford Bridge page is giving me some good reading. Check this out

In recent years lots of work has been put in from Chelsea supporters to bring more colour and character into the stadium. Alongside banners representing various supporters clubs from around the world and the personal ones belonging to supporters, banners visible at Stamford Bridge include:
JT - CAPTAIN, LEADER, LEGEND - A homage to Chelsea captain John Terry.
SUPER FRANKIE LAMPARD - A homage to Frank Lampard. Original
CHELSEA OUR RELIGION - A homage to the fanatical, almost religious support from Chelsea fans. Since when?
HISTORY MAKERS - A tribute to Chelsea's first ever double winning squad. Features the names of every player in the squad from the 2009/10 season and silhouettes of the Barclays Premier League and FA Cup trophies. Bless

I think that we have to be careful when we use it - it is a largely reactive formation unless the opposition is using wingers. Chelsea look a shadow of the team they were even last season (and even more so the start of this), the creative spark has gone and Torres, Drogba and Anelka didn't link at all.

It was a perfect choice to seek a draw and hope for a win against a superior team. In the long run I don't think it is the way we should be aiming to build a team if we want to win things.

                            I agree with that.

If we use it sparingly, it is another tool in the armoury. If the opposite can not predict which way we will be set up, it makes their job harder.

For that reason, I do not 'hope we get shot of this formation'.

It worked on Sunday. It will have it's uses in the future.
                            Oh I don't know.

I do count them as one of the better teams. The initiative the system gives the opposition is in terms of possession and space.
