From a purely personal perspective, I hope we win. Obviously I have no facts to back that up.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
Kenny Dalglish will hand late fitness tests to Steven Gerrard, Martin Skrtel and Jonjo Shelvey ahead of the clash with Wigan. Shelvey?
Gerrard missed the England clash with Denmark due to a groin injury, picked up against Chelsea last week, but he may have recovered in time to face the Latics at Anfield. Skrtel has a thigh injury which kept him out of Slovakia's friendly with Luxembourg and he faces a late test alongside Shelvey who missed England's Under-21 defeat to Italy with a knee problem.
Joe Cole is also a doubt with a knee problem but he has an outside chance of making the bench after returning to training, while new signing Andy Carroll is still unavailable.
Uruguay star Luis Suarez is in line to make his full debut after appearing as a substitute in the last two games.
The Reds go into the game looking for their eighth home victory in their last ten matches, a run which has seen them fly up the table into sixth spot.
Team news ahead of Saturday afternoon's Premier League clash between Liverpool and Wigan at Anfield.
Wigan defender Gary Caldwell could play with a mask to protect a fractured cheekbone at Anfield.
Caldwell missed the victory over Blackburn at the weekend because of the injury but was given permission to train with the Scotland squad this week.
James McCarthy is likely to be available after he was withdrawn from the Republic of Ireland squad as manager Roberto Martinez wanted him to rest his previously injured ankle.
Liverpool team news to follow...
Wigan (from): Al Habsi, Pollitt, Kirkland, Gohouri, Stam, Figueroa, Watson, Diame, McArthur, Thomas, N'Zogbia, McCarthy, McManaman, Rodallega, Lopez, Gomez, S Caldwell, G Caldwell, Boyce, Di Santo, Salmon, De Ridder.
I'd probably rest Johnson as he played the full 90 for England and go with something like this. You can change Kuyt and Suarez but that's how I'd start off.

N'Gog is young enough to be able to play without being registered - so is Sterling, but Sterling counts as part of the homegrown quota, so it makes sense to register him.
