I'm not sure about this universal call for a winger. I really think it depends on how we plan to set up. If we go for a combination of the 4-3-3 and 3-5-2 formations we have been using then a genuine winger would be a bit wasted. There are examples either way as to whether one is really needed (i.e. Barcelona and Arsenal don't use them but Man U and Tottenham have had successes that seem largely dependent upon them).

I think a leftback is an absolute necessity.

Another CM would be good.

Another attacking player whether that be a wide forward/winger or creative midfielder.

I'd also like us to make some changes to the CBs in the squad. I don't think we have any really good partnerships there at the minute. I would hold off judgement on that until we have seen what KD and Clarke make of what we have in the rest of the season.

I agree with that but I think we could do with a winger in the squad, even if it's just to mix things up and give us a different option. At the moment the majority of our attacking players prefer to play through the middle, another option as a plan B would be useful IMO especially as we have Carroll, who could benefit from such a player.

Obviously the way we are planning to play would have a bearing on how much we are prepared to pay...

Pretty solid, young, hungry squad that. Obviously could adapt to various formations.

Wouldn't win the league with those 22 footballers, but under Kenny or another top manager it should get us back into the top four without breaking the bank.

Overall though, I'd personally be a little disappointed with it.

We need better than Carra to be a regular first teamer next year. Johnson also won't play second fiddle to Kelly, I don't even think he'll be happy continuing as LB, so could be off if Kenny prefers Kelly.

Why do we need a new LB. IMO Johnson will continue there. He is doing pretty well cutting in and getting forward.

Also, for what its worth, I think the long term plan will be to move him forward. He is playing as a wing back at the moment. So its the logical progession.

I working off the assumption that Anfielddanfield has Kelly as first choice. As well as Kelly has done, I doubt Kenny would see him as a better player than Johnson at this early stage in his career.

We certainly need a few positions coming in this summer - left back, centre back and I'd like to see an attacking creative player come in, be that an out and out winger or someone to play off the front in a 3, depending on what formation KK is looking to play really.

Of course he's not, very few players are(if any) but he's a damn good player.

Not saying we should sign him, personally i hate the cunt and would never want us to sign him. It's a shame because he's a quality player. Imo.

And only 2 years younger than Gerrard. What would be the point in that?

Though we have signed 2 strikers and have instantly more depth in this position it is a part of the field where I wouldn't mind us being even stronger. Personally I can't see N'gog staying beyond this season and Pacheco, though full of potential, is massively unproven at the top level and potentially too light weight. It is all about competition so either another top CF or better quality back up.

Other than that, I agree we obviously need width, a DM, and a left back.

It will be interesting to see who wants out at the end of the season also, once Kenny has been in a few months players will quickly work out whether they are needed or not. Joe Cole must be looking at his position for example, it is a player of his sort that we lack, and missing out on Van Der Vaart and taking Cole is not looking like brilliant business as things stand.

Aguero will almost certainly move in the summer. Kuyt out Aguero in?

I don't think that we need a new central midfielder. Suso can play there. Give him a chance instead of buying a new CM.

Canales isn't getting any games at Real. Could be available at a fair price.

Give Wilson a chance instead of buying a new central defender.

Not sure if we have money but I would also look for a new CB. With Agger's injury problems and Carra and Soto getting older (33 and 32 this year) we will need to search for a new replacement very soon.

Can anyone do up a little scout report? Is Zapater around maybe? Because he could save us some money if he is good enough, which we can spend on strengthening other areas, or focusing more money on 1 position.
